Thread: Elvis last karate training ?

  1. #1

Question Elvis last karate training ?

When was the last time Elvis did go down to the karate place for karate training ? Maybe 1976 and are there maybe pictures of Elvis doing karate after 1974 ?

Seems like he lost some interest in it after 1974. I'm sure his health had something to do with it too, but you never hear much about it after 74.

    Elvis lat karate training

It's my understanding that he kept up with it pretty much until he died, although I do think he lost interest a bit because his karate movie never got off the ground.

Vulcandude, he was still doing it til August '77. It loved the sport and he lost a lot of weight for the upcoming August/September tour. And if you look at pictures of him in August '77 he didn ot look that heavy he looked like he did New Years Eve tours.

There's pictures I've seen of him in 1976 with his karate suit on so...

Yeah, there are still pictures of Elvis in his Karate suit by '76, and he was still practicing Karate during the last month of his life, Karate was not to him a fad, a hobby or even just a sport, apart from music, Karate was one of things he most enjoyed doing, and he really was comited into it as a whole philosophy and a way of live, (well at least on the motivational field). As far as I read he never lost interest on the Karate/Kung Fu thing, but it was his health the one thing that didnt allow him to practice as much as he used to before '74.

As its been stated here already, the main reason was because of his rapidly declining health. Elvis practiced it though up until his death in '77 though. He had a real love for it..as you can find a few pictures from the 50's and 60's that have Elvis practicing karate!

Also, if your looking for good footage of Elvis practicing Karate, I would suggest tracking down the movie called "Kung Fu Fighting". Theres about 30 minutes of footage in very good quality on it !

I'm thinking these where maybe late '75, because in one with Linda looks like his sideburns where not as long and if you see the one solid and 2 dashing lines. In my school we just used Yellow and that met 7th Degree black belt and Elvis was 8th Degree when he died so. I think forgot where i read it but I think in July '77 he just got his 8th Degree not 100% sure about that.

But didn't on Desert Storm, the closing show in Las Vegas 1974 Elvis said that he was an 8th degree black belt in karate

I think the book "Unseen Elvis" place them as after 74, but you guys could be right and this are from '73, I guess for a short period in '73 he was as big as he was in '76, he did make himself a favor and lost a lot of fat during '74.

But anyway, photos or not, it is a fact that Elvis did karate and later on kung-fu since the army days till the day he died.
