An Elvis On Tour Album in the works for 2007!

I just saw the new FTD CD soundboard from Charlotte called Unchained Melody . Personally 1977 isn't my taste but there are those who seem to think he was fine and not ill or off any in that final year. I would think Ernst would have gone with Indianapolis as the final show for a soundboard from 1977 instead.

Anyhow on to the really good news! The April release by FTD is going to be a multi channel release of the February 1972 Las Vegas recordings possibly titled: American Trilogy . So this has me thinking that there must be some type of On Tour album in the works for 2007 on the main stream market! I can't see Ernst repackaging the already available 1972 Vegas tracks again (minus a few still unreleased songs) with 3 fantastic unreleased shows from April laying around in the vaults if nothing was being planned for the RCA label. He would be a ***** to do that. Now if the April release was Richmond or Hampton Roads, then I would assume there would be no On Tour album. But that's not the case and that has to mean something is planned.

Now as a die hard fan of Elvis On Tour , I have waited 30 years for this material to be officially released on album. I remember as a child seeing On Tour for the first time on VHS and it got me so hooked that I made an audio tape of the songs from the soundtrack by placing a small tape recorder next to the tv speaker to record the audio. I was that hooked! I now have the San Antonio show but I consider this to be the weakest of all 4 shows recorded. The show begins great and energetic but after Polk Salad Annie , the energy level drops and it seems to lose its edge. Also the set list wasn't as strong as the other shows taped. I think this is the prime reason for RCA to release that particular show ahead of the others on the Close Up box set.

I hope that they give us the Hampton show. But if not that, at least a mixture of the best from the 3 remaining shows and include the 3 lost performances from the import album of the Hampton show. Maybe include the lost 7 songs from the Import of the Richmond show too. And I want this album to have the ultimate sound and mix possible. And hopefully they go the route of Love by The Beatles where you can buy the stereo mix or the 5.1 mix.

Well, i'm not sure about this. I guess we will get som on tour material in time, but can't see that the release of the february 72 vegas show is a clear sign of a soon on tour release.

I read somewhere that FTD's goal is to release a show from every tour. So what order they do it in maybe strategic as you say, or maybe not. I honestly don't know.

Ernst told last year that there will be nothing released from on tour, untill they gor some info about the release of a on tour project by the movie company...so i think you're right about a upcoming on tour release...cause ernst is going to release on the FTD label a concert from this on tour period...but time will tell if we are right...let's cross our fingers..

Let me just add that all of this is just my opinion and pure speculation based on the news that in April (the 35th anniversary of the tour) Ernst has chosen to go with the already released material from February 1972 instead of a multi channel show form April. That's why I assume that there will be a new On Tour album in 2007, DVD or not. I just can't see RCA holding this material back much longer. It's too good and is gathering dust sitting in the vaults aging like us.

The Indy tape is in the hands of a person who is independently wealthy and who has no plans to hand it over to Ernst.

    Elvis On Tour album?

I think an official "Elvis On Tour" album release would be great! I think the only problem might be is that a lot of the concert material already released from that time period is basically the same. Unless the material were to be unreleased or super extrordinary in any way, I'd have to wonder about any release made.....

While I am certainly HOPING that an official collection of ELVIS ON TOUR material is released at some point, I truly don't believe that a release is imminent...

It would have made much more sense for Ernst/RCA to release material from ELVIS ON TOUR back in 2002 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the movie. Obviously that didn't happen, and with 2007 being the 30th anniversary of Elvis' passing, I suspect that will overshadow the 35th anniversary of ELVIS ON TOUR. Of course, I hope I'm wrong on that...

But I see 2007 being nothing more than another year for RCA to capitalize on the 30th anniversary of Elvis' passing by re-re-re-re-releasing the same material to "bring in new fans" (such as the case with the already announced January '07 release of 'The Essential Elvis Presley' - a 2-CD set of songs that have already been released hundreds of times before). Since we can't even get an official release of the movie on DVD, I can't see RCA going out on its own to release the EOT material....I still suspect that Ernst/RCA is waiting for an official DVD release of EOT to be able to tie in a mainstream CD market release.

I'm afraid that the best we can hope for in 2007 in terms of ELVIS ON TOUR material is something from FTD...otherwise, it may very well be the 40th anniversary of ELVIS ON TOUR in 2012 before we see a mainstream CD release (or even an official DVD release, for that matter!!)

    TCB!
