    re elvis in concert outakes

is it me or is watching E.P. inconcert 77, complete performances borring, it seems so dull watching E.P from start to finish from each show[of course we know he was still asleep durring the OMAHA show], i realize that the director put the 2 shows together and put in audience sequences yo make it look more exciting, to bad they didn't make a c ontract to film numerous performances from winter to summer tour, it sure would have made a better watch than what it is[ i know i'llget alot of flak about this comment] again this is my opinion, but what do you all think?

I think the original 1977 TV Special is awful, and not just because of Elvis' sluggish performances. It is an amateur effort at best, and the fan comments ruin the whole thing as far as I'm concerned. Even worse than the original TTWII, and that's saying something.
As for the full shows, Elvis was in a rut the last couple of years, and the Omaha and Rapid City shows are non-events.
Of course, there were exceptions: Pittsburgh NYE '76 and Indianapolis '77 spring to mind.
But hey, it's Elvis, so we'll watch the stuff anyway.

Personally, I much prefer the (near) complete performances to the heavily edited CBS Special itself, and I can honestly say, no, I don't find them boring at all.

Whilst there were no doubt better shows that year (and even that tour), I believe there's more than enough of that Presley magic to ensure they still remain entertaining.

Though of course tinged with sadness, Elvis was also in pretty good humour at times and, great voice on certain key numbers. Just look at him shaking his *** during 'Hound Dog'; the smile on his face; he's into it man.

Listen to him wisecracking that he's gonna call up one of his bodyguards on stage to sing 'They Call The Wind Mariah'. Or that the wedding scene in 'Blue Hawaii' was so realistic that for 2 years he thought he was married to the chick.

For me, the definitive 'My Way' came during the taping of those two shows, and again, for key numbers, his vocals were right on the money.

Of course, whilst to have filmed more shows that tour, that year, previous years, Pittsburgh's New Years Eve performance, for a televised TV special would have been preferable, it didn't happen that way.

Of course, the CBS material also has it's fair share of stringent detractors out there in the fandom, and to those I would say, it is perfectly acceptable, for those that can, to enjoy the performances for what they are, and perhaps more important (if applicable) for others to not hate them for what they are not.

I would very much welcome a deluxe box set of both performances plus a re - edited special in a box set to go alongside the Aloha and Comeback boxes.

Although Elvis' performances where not too good, the special could have been edited a lot better. I never understood why they left out TRYING TO GET TO YOU, IT'S NOW OR NEVER or FAIRYTALE. The interviews should have stayed in the vaults and the backstage material should have been included instead.
