Thread: Elvis without Jumpsuit Belt!

    Elvis without Jumpsuit Belt!

There are quite a few pictures around that show Elvis on stage without a belt! There is a clip HERE thanks to Sonny.

What are your views, I think certainly earlier on in 1970-73 Elvis looked fantastic without the belts on stage.

Leroy has added comments regarding this issue on the Belt Story on eppg and for those who are interested you can see that HERE

    Here are some pictures.

I think some of the suits look good without a belt if there is more of a pttern around the waist area but in the pic with elvis in the white suit i think a belt would compement it better.

To me the belt makes it look more classy. Or it would have just look like a jumpsuit you wear at car wash (but not cheap one. LOL) As, being a Tribute Artist I have Red Lion, and few of those jumpsuits up there. I know the belts get very heavy. My Red Lion belt now I weighted this 15 pounds! LOL I joke saying its my WWF Belt at the shows. So you can just imagen why Elvis would take them off once and a while.

    Love to all,

See like my Dragon belt I find that every show I do, I usually have to take it off because with doing a lot of fast songs with movements it makes your breathing shorter...and you know how Elvis moved in 1971-1972. So I like him with the belt on but I understand if he had to take it off too.

    Love to all,

I do like some of Elvis' suits without the belt as Matt said in the earlier days when he was trim, but do prefer the look with the belts on, especially the belts that have the chain loops hanging from them - sexy!!

I personally think the belts added a sense of style, especially for the period (early-mid 70's), because large belts were the thing back then (I remember my mother buying me one to wear when I was a kid .

The main thing (imo) is the belts help "set off" the jumpsuits, at least to my old eyes. Seeing the fancy buckles and chains just added to the flavor of the outfits.

To me, the jumpsuits w/o a belt makes them appear like fancy pajamas .....nice, but a bit plain.

However, to the untrained eye that suit elvislady posted in this picture could be easily mistaken for a jumpsuit, that's true, elvislady.

Anyway, in the early seventies he looked very good without the belts as well, that's for sure.

I liked this look much better. It doesn't interfere with my being an obsessed fan of Elvis but I was never really crazy about the Jump suits. I liked the Aloha American Eagle one, and a couple of them but today I've come to not like them as much because of how they lend themsleves to the bashers jokes with the "350 lbs in spandex jumpsuits" nonsense like I just heard in some indy movie this very weekend. To me the best was 69 at the international in the black 2 piece suit lean mean and ready to Kick ...

That said, answering the original question, if he had to wear one, like with the "Aloha" concert I liked the Belt. I don't think it would have been nearly as impressive in that case without it.

No way Jose..... An Elvis jumpsuit without a belt is like a plane without wings. The capes were amazing and I hated to see them gone (used frequently) after 1972. The belt made the jumpsuit complete.

I do believe (and Elvis also thought so) that Elvis had to drop the jumpsuit when he turned 40. He slowly tried to move from jumpsuit to a regular wardrobe in 1975 using the 2-piece suits. But for an unknown reason he skipped back to the jumpsuits, just like he skipped to the same old setlist in the August 1974 Vegas season after trying a new approach during the openingshow.

The reason why he moved back from the two-pieces to the jumpsuits is as clear as a bell, Albert. They gave him less room to move and the fans didn't respond too enthousiastic at them. At least back then.
In retrospect it's easy for us to say what we like the best now but in the seventies the opinion about fashion was a lot different. The fans responded very positive to each new eleborate suit so it was only logical to push the enveloppe a little more.

Belts look SO much better then the pics of him without. *nods*

With the American Eagle Jumpsuit it's alright without the belt because it has some type of design already around the waist but the others needs the belts totally! They look so bland without them.

I like with or without belt, still always looks cool to me

I dream a world where man no other man
will scorn. Where LOVE will bless the earth
    and peace its paths adorn...
