The song that so many people claim to be their favorite Elvis tune was at the top of the charts 37 years ago.

IMO Suspicious Minds has aged pretty well but would have more so without the horns and the false fadeout. (But perhaps without those elements it wouldn't have been as successful--who knows?) Here's to undubbed versions!

I like the single version of Suspicious Minds. I liked the fade out and 4.29 version better. The short undubbed version felt like it wasn't finished to me. Suspicious Minds was my first Elvis single in my collection. I don't think I would have bought it if it was the undubbed version on a single in 1969.
Whe the DJ's payed it they got caught out when it faded out for a second and come back again. After all Elvis made Suspicious Minds last 7 minutes or more on his Las Vegas come back show.
The fade out was done again on I Just Can't Help Believin and that worked all right.

This is one of my all-time favorite Elvis songs. You can just feel and hear how excited Elvis is in this song. He's at his pure best, and the beat really drives you. The fake fadeout is so cool and was very original, and, very well done. At a time when most music had gone harder, edgier, Elvis still went to number one with this. Just goes to show that pure rock n' roll never goes out of style!

I understand the Colonel didnt want Elvis to record this, but Elvis really believed in the song and went on to record it anyhow and the rest is history as they say.
