Elvis beaten in list of artists to sing at funeral: FLAMBOYANT music icon Elton John is the artist most Haringey residents would like to play at their funeral. Crooners Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley were beaten into second and third places in the poll by Age Concern. Residents snubbed rock and pop acts like Oasis, The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and Will Young in the last request wish list.
And award-winning guitar outfit Arctic Monkeys were the band residents would least like to play at their funeral.
The survey also contained a more serious message, revealing that 95 per cent of Haringey residents fail to make funeral arrangements - and could have even their most simple requests unfulfilled. Robert Edmonds, Age Concern Haringey's chief officer, said: "Funerals are an important tribute to the lives we led and so many people look for individual touches to make their funerals a personal celebration of their lives.
"While we are yet to encounter requests for famous people to sing at funerals, music is certainly one of the most important areas that people tailored their own tastes to ensure a very special occasion to be remembered by." Some 41 per cent of respondents said music would be the most important part of their funeral.
