    The publicity blitz ....

People, I was in a few record shops on Saturday just checking the action and saw just a couple of Aloha sets....no 68 or Sun in stock. Not a mention of the releases either in the press or in the shops or even the "just released" lists..... What caught my eye was many posters for new CD by a singer called PJ Harvey, she had a skirt with a picture of Elvis on the posters ...but will non fans realise who it is ?

Another connection I saw was a clip on MTV that had a group called Propellerhead( ?) I think that had a guy that looks uncannily like Elvis at times...ofcourse it had to have the eating connection in the clip but was not too bad.I think.

The musicindustry is having problems growing up. With promotion they still think the oldfashioned way: posters in recordstores. Since more and more people are buying music of the internet, the advertising should also be focused towards that new group.

I rarely visit a recordstore, because I buy movies, music and games online. I pick the shop in the world with the best price (and fast delivery) for the article that I want. But I rarely see those articles being advertised on the net. Isn't that weird?

I agree Albert....there seems to be a few articles on the "Birth of RnR" on a few news sites, with the mandatory ***** giving his 2 cents on why Elvis is not the "real king" but not an ad in sight ..even at the major CD/ DVD selling sites....

I read in several places that there was going to be extensive media associated with the release of the new DVD sets and the ELVIS AT SUN CD release.

So far, I haven't seen anything....nothing on the major networks, nothing on the music video channels...VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!

It really does say a lot about the power of Elvis fans though, when the new DVD sets can debut on the Billboard charts at #4 and #5 without very little, if any promotion, other than the Elvis messageboards and word of mouth!!

All Elvis fans around the world should give themselves a pat on the back for giving Elvis 2 more Top 5 debuts!!

over here in the u.k elvis has had a little advertising ,firstly the singl 'thats all right' and the 68 comeback dvd were mentioned in a newspaper magazine.Elvis was also mentioned on a television chart show ,he was also mentioned in the newspaper where they said thats all right single was set for number one here in the uk.....so advertising isnt that bad here, could be and should be however alot better, aron.

That is NOT advertising Aron, that is just related publicity which are favored methods of EPE ( bring in a couple of reporters give them a dinner & drinks and then they write a "story" for free!).

Ads are you know the ones that you have to pay for ... have a look at the ads for Cigarettes etc in a magazine or a hoarding at the Football stadium ?

So can we have a feedback on who saw what ad when and where ? Remember the co-ordinated publicity that EPE claimed that would be centered around July 5th.?

It is so easy to loose sight of what the rest of the world see's when you stand in the spotlight. They need to see or hear things like the Beach Boys used to do ....play the music through little speakers: several shops do not even know about "TAR " or "Elvis at Sun" or even the DVDs .Now EPE will blame us fans for not supporting these great products; I am not being sarcastic here.

Apart from a 20 second clip from "PHS" and a story on the 50th anniv of TAR at 1.58 AM I saw nothing on TV. In the newspaper I saw a clown posing in front of the HMV shop in London....did he not know that it was a 50's Celebration ? but then I guess he is less a fan and more a profesional making his living......and lastly several internet pages/sites chose to hight light the PURPLE anniversary

STILL NOTHING HERE IN THE U.S.!!!

THAT'S ALL RIGHT is not being played on any radio stations in my area, no TV or radio ads for ANY of the new CD/DVD releases that are out...it just makes me SO mad that all of the TV/radio stations feel that Elvis is not worth the effort to advertise (or should I REALLY blame EPE/BMG for not spending the money to pay for advertising?)

I do have to say though that several radio stations in my area DID participate in the GLOBAL MOMENT IN TIME on July 5th, although there again, absolutely NO prior announcement of this event taking place! Basically, if you didn't know it was happening, then you wouldn't have heard it unless you happened to be tuned into those stations at the time it was played! What a downright shame not to announce such an historic event, so more people could have proudly admitted they participated in such an historic event!!

It's just the same ol', same ol' when it comes to the lack of advertisement for Elvis!!

When i was still lived in Indonesia same thing happened, they didnt have elvis publicity, except when the first time Elvis in Concert i think it was in 1997 and thats all.

BUT when it gets to the Beatles, or another dead singer /entertainer .. the media eating it up,..some even had special features about them...
how not fair all these ..
