Big media coverage?

I was wondering, how was it back in the days when a new Elvis record, album, movie,...came out? Was there a lot of advertising? Did people seem to wait for it?

I was really young maybe 6years old and remember them only advertising, Hound Dog Double LP set of hits and Elvis in Hollywood that came with a picture book concert photos, witch seemed out of place. The centerfold had photos of some of the soundtracks, that's it.
I think the Colonel was really cheap. Look at Elvis' stage compared to the top acts fo the 1970s. To mention a few, KISS and Alice Cooper. I know they are rock acts but they still looked like they had more to offer as far as Big Show went.
I often thought, why didn't they just keep the lights from the Aloha show and used it for the up coming tours?

I can recall we had a store called "Arlans" which was a K-Mart type store and they always had free Elvis photos to the first 25 people who bought his newest single. I do not recall a lot of promotion for his records other than that. But his movie trailers always aired on TV a couple weeks before his newest movie hit the theaters. Also there were radio ads for his movies. Fan clubs also would let you know when his newest single, album, or movie was getting ready to be released. Ah the good old days....

That's the same as I wonders about sometimes.

Personally I think it was in the 60's not as much as it was in the 50's,but then it all came back in the late 60's and 70's.

Elvis didn't need all the overdone pyrotechnics that went along with some of those kinds of bands. It's a little difficult to grasp a visual of Elvis biting off the head of live chicken "Elvis" was all that he needed...none of the silly stuff. I think anyone that saw Elvis would tend to agree...you never came away from a show thinking "gosh, I wish Elvis could offer us something more along the lines of an Alice Cooper show" The man's charisma alone was worth more than any fireworks show,,IMO

I don't know when all the fireworks and Solid Gold dancers (that alone should tell you my age, LOL) were added to concerts, I haven't been to one in ages!. It is strange that Elvis wasn't encouraged to do TV circuits to push a movie or album. Especially when his record sales started to go downhill. I realize that at that time, promotion wasn't what it is now, but the Col. was the carny king of promotion.
