No, he didn't recorded more songs than Love Letters twice.. (Correct if i'm wrong!)
It's a beautiful song anyway, and i love every live version Elvis did..

Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.'
That's why he still keep singing a song
Hi JJ,
the answer to your question is yes:
1. Blue Suede Shoes (original in 1956).
2. Blue Suede Shoes (G.I. Blues soundtrack in 1960).
cheers, rossjam.
Additionally (aside from live and home recordings) there is ........
When It Rains It Really Pours (Sun 1955 and RCA 1957)
A Whistling Tune (for both the Kid Galahad and the Follow That Dream soundtracks)
Memphis Tennessee and Ask Me (May 1963 and January 1964)
Elvis only re-recorded Love letters because his keyboardist David Briggs thought he could play his part better than the first version. Elvis did'nt really succeed in improving it, though i really do love when he drags the word 'sign' on and on, very cool indeed.

I perfer the '66 version as well Matt. But I really enjoy the versions done from 1976. That song is alot of times my favorite part of a '76 concert it was so brilliantly done imo, even in 1976!
"How do I get placed in situations like this? Ah hell, I guess it's all part of showbusiness "~ Elvis in his limo on his way to perform in Omaha, NE on June 19th 1977
I clearly prefer his original recording of "Love Letters". The re-make is no improvement at all and most later versions drag quite a bit. I like the version Elvis did in Tuscaloosa on 30th August 1976.
I also agree that it does not better the original '66 version, although its nice to hear an alternate![]()

Don't forget about Swing Down, Sweet Chariot too.
Recorded October 30, 1960 at Studio B in Nashville, for the His Hand In Mine album.
Also done on October 23, 1968 at United Recorders in Hollywood for use in the movie TheTrouble With Girls.
I much prefer the '68 version.
Me too, I like the Swing Down Sweet Chariot from The Trouble With Girls than the one on His Hand In Mine.
As for Love Letters performing live. I like the one on New Years Eve better than any other version.
Another one: Elvis recorded "Trouble" for the movie "King Creole" that was in 1958, ten years latter he recorded the song again with a new arrangment in a medley with "Guitar Man" for a TV Special.
There's also the two studio versions of "One Night" with diferent lyrics in '57, the "Of Sin" version was recorded on the same session as "Teddy Bear" that was Jan 24 57, the "With You" take on Feb 23.
He also recorded "I Beg of You" on Jan 13 '57, and he re-recorded it on Feb 23, "DOnt Leave me Now" Feb 23 '57 and April 30 '57, and "Treat Me Nice" April 30 '57 and then again on Sep 5 same year.
Yet, if your question refers only to a song that was recorded twice as well as releaced twice during Elvis life time, I think "Love Letters" (66 & 71), "Blue Suede SHoes" (56 & 60) and "Trouble" (58 & 68 ) are the only ones. On the case of all the other songs mentioned on this thread only one of those versions was released back then.

I can't remember anymore studio material that he recorded more than once, but I do know few songs he sang in twice in 1 concert:
Let Me Be There (FTD I Found My Thrill)
Hurt (many live boot cd's)
Its Now Or Never (Desert Storm cd)
I prefer the 1971 version of "Love Letters." I guess that it is because of the richness of Elvis' voice.![]()
I had the pleasure of watching Elvis sing "Love Letters" live at a concert in June of 1976. He did a marvelous job on the song that night!![]()
