    Of All The Rotton Luck...

I just had to tell someone about this...
I'd been having a bit of a hard week so a friend of mine who buys books from charity shops said that she had brought me something to cheer me up, the first thing I thought of was an Elvis book

I was right, when she brought it round to me, I took it out of the wrapping and didn't quite know how to respond... it was 'Elvis' by ALBERT GOLDMAN!!

How the hell is that gonna cheer me up?

My friend is very lucky that I know she is not at all clued up on Elvis, otherwise...

Poor guy! That would be my family too, don't have a clue. Except for my mom, of course, who got me started in all this.
Got my family, my kids, my books and my music, I'm good, yeah, I'm good.....

Although a nice gesture, I would burn it and not let her know.

Or at the very least glue all the pages shut so that it can never see the open light of day again.

what a bad luck.... although the gesture was very nice....

I would sell it on Ebay and buy another book from the money that i'd make selling the Albert Goldman book

    Hey Terry

I started a thread here and we all got on the subject of this Goldman guy and his book. Everyone had heard of him and his book, evidently, except me. People have been giving me the low down on him here. I'm so curious I've been thinking of going to the library and trying to find it and then you post a thread that someone just gave you one. What a coincidence.

Problem is, if you sell it for what its worth, you would end up owing them money for taking it

Sorry to hear about you bad luck... I read the book and to be honest with you it really made me mad and I wanted to sent the book to him and tell him where to stick it.... but then someone told me that he had died... so yea I still have the book... but will never read it again..

The guy was a total jerk and very, very jealous of Elvis.. no other way to look at him...

If you read the book "Take it like a grain of Salt" not worth much.

Hopefully your friend did not know that the book was garbage and probably bought is for next to nothing.. in hopes that it might be a good book.. Dovey

Oh yeah I've got the book and read it several years ago and will never open it again.

The man just loved attacking people. Didn't he do this to John Lennon too? Probably quite a few others. Hostile, hostile.........

    Hi Dovey,
She told me that she got the book for ?1.20 and really did not know what kind of book it was! just saw Elvis on the front and thought it would be good.

When I told her it what it was, she said "well at least I brought you something that you didn't already have"

    Hi Terry,

Just throw it out, that way you won't have to look at it anymore...
Is it possible for your friend to exchange it for you...

Yes, you really should read it. But also have the two excellent books from Guarlnick to balance it out with facts.

To be honest with you, I did not know what kind of a book it was until I started reading it.. then I got mad. I decided I was going to send it back to him... someone on this borard said that he had died.. so I guess I could not send the book where he went

Anyway, I sure can understand how she got it for you and did not know what kind of a person Goldman was I sure didn't. Dovey

    Hi Franny,

to be totally honest, I have never read it from start to finish, but got almost halfway and can safely say that every page made me fell more and more angry!
I doubt she could exchange it for me, it came from a charity shop. ... I might just donate it straight back to a charity shop!

    Of All The Rotton Luck...

I have been transferring old videotapes I made over the years to DVD. I have recently come across at least two interviews Goldman did on U.S. TV when the book came out.
One is the run of the mill "Entertainment Tonight" type interview.. nothing special really.
However, the second one is very interesting- Goldman appears on the NBC "Tomorrow" program hosted by Tom Snyder. This show was on right after the Tonight Show and was the program NBC replaced with LATE NIGHT with DAVID LETTERMAN.
Snyder normally just interviewed guests in a studio, but for this program he had a live audience. Until Goldman came out. Syder explained that the audience was cleared out due to a request from Goldman. On top of that Goldman was extremely nervous during the interview.
He talked about why he wrote the book, also about reviewing Elvis' 1969 Vegas comeback shows for a magazine and what that experience was like to him. Very interesting stuff to see.

I am working on possibly posting a video clip of this, and if that isn't possible an audio clip. That is if there is any interest in it.
