    Graceland in Elvis grandchilds hands

What will happen to Graceland and Elvis legacy ?
I was wondering while reading and posting in "Graceland and Pricecilla?s thread " what will happen when the day comes ( i wish her a long life, don?t get me wrong ) and Lisa?s childs own Graceland and Elvis image. I think if they keep it they will give all the whole thing a 180 degrees turn, refresh Elvis image, open the first floor to the public, finish all the morbidity that their family alone have created making some things taboo. Do you think they will sell it ?
Anyway ... i have some high hopes in that son of Lisa. I think he is going to get from his grandfather some of his talent and personality, time will tell.

I think Lisa's children or even grandchildren will eventually sell Graceland. The only thing that connects them with Elvis, is their last name (and even that isn't completely rightfull, since they may choose for the last name of their father, instead of their mother).

Although I never have visited Graceland, I still hate the idea that Priscilla had it completely re-decorated before opening it to the public. The Graceland that we see and visit, isn't the same as the one Elvis lived in during the last few days of his life. Priscilla was given Graceland (through the Estate) and made it her own and tried to sell it as the true, real, authentic home of Elvis, completely time-sealed after August 1977.

I also believe that the first floor will be opened for public. Like the rest of Graceland, Lisa and Priscilla try to sell it with a taste of romance (and lies). They say the 1st floor is completely the same and still furnished. That's another lie: the first floor is empty and Lisa's old room is used as storage. SO their story is just a way of keeping the public curious and wanting to visit the 1st floor.

I agree with you Albert I also think the first floor mistery has being created by the two of them. I can?t understand how can they let us as see Elvis?mother bedroom who was so sacred for him and not let us see his bedroom to keep his privacy (and that after Priscilla?s book telling Elvis intimacies to the world ). Something is wrong here. I hope Lisa?s childs will grow up more open minded.

    Hi Albert,
It may not be the same as it was during the last couple of years, with the red , but it is the way it was during the bulk of the years which you can see photos of through out the museum part of the house. Its not like they lie about it either as they have some of the red stuff on display elsewhere mention it on the audio protion of the tours and if you take a VIP tour the employees talk to you a bit more, they will tell you that all of that is in storage still, along with some of the red drapes etc. Personally I think its better the way it is now. The way it was during his prime and the majority of the years. There are parts of it though such as the Kitchen and the "jungle room" which are untouched, since the final days .

Everyone will have different opinions on it, but that one is mine. Also there is a great feeling inside the place, like he could come down the stairs at any time. As you walk around during the day and hear the other fans some come from all over the world every day, many will say the same. I've heard dozens of people there over the years some even said they hated Elvis before and were only going because their Husband or Girlfriend or whatever wanted to, and at the end they were fans and buying CDs and postcards or books at the gift shop for themselves! Which I love hearing. I think Its a great place to visit I hope it just keeps getting bigger and adding more in the surrounding area .

    Cool

Well they have already made a sale to Robert Sillerman regarding the rights to Elvis's name image and likeness and also the running of Graceland. So to that extent the future generations of Elvis's family will adopt a role similar to what Priscilla and Lisa do at present.

Elvis's parents bedroom was used by his other people including his grandmother after Glady's died and Vernon moved out with Dee. As for the upstairs, aside from logistical problems such as not being able to get people up there for Fire and Safety reasons as the house would have to be altered and it can't as its a national landmark, I think his place of death should remain private. There isn't much upstairs anymore anyway it's all been moved for preservation purposes.

On the movie This is Elvis you can get a good idea of how it looks up there, I can't see it ever being opened though - and to the general public who don't really know why it isnt open it adds a touch of mystique and mystery to the Graceland tour.

To me a house is only a home when it is occupied by the owner. Graceland is now a museum that holds artifacts that belonged to Elvis. What priscilla has done to that house is erase any history of Linda Tompson and I suppose you can't blame her for that when she has the keys to the door. I don't like Priscilla but she has in part created and maintained a Graceland for the masses, she has taken away some of the originality and made Graceland less of a victim in terms of being dated by fashion, cream has a calming effect and less prone to being attacked by the media.

As for the upstairs issue.... well, as has been commented already the mystic qualities are better for it not being open and finally I don't want to be able to see pictures of people standing in the bathroom where Elvis passed away.

I feel the same way. Beside my Dad, I think Elvis was the greatest man who ever lived. My Dad passed away last year in the hospital and I hate to even drive pass that place. And I feel the same way about the upstairs at Graceland. I just been there last week and I like the tour just the way it is. I think it would be a bad idea to open up the upstairs to the public, it holds a tragic memory. But like so many said, it's all about the $$$ and one day they might open it up just to jack up the tour's tickets price. Just so they can have more dollars in their pockets.

If the crowds keep coming there is no reason to sell Graceland. You don't have to be connected with Elvis to take the money. So there is no reason to sell Graceland, at least not, if you are wealthy and don't need cash.

Eventually there will be a generation of Presley grandchildren that have no emotional contact with their connection with Elvis. You see that in every line of wellknown families.

So I strongly believe that Elvis' bedroom and even the bathroom will become open for visitors in the future. Perhaps not during my lifetime, but eventually it will. The mighty dollar opens all doors.

I'm not going to disagree with Albert about them possibly in the future opening up the upstairs. I don't know if it's sentimental to the Presleys or it adds to the mistique of Elvis' personal life.

I, personally, wouldn't want to see it. I almost think it would be disrespectful. I've never been through the tour at Graceland or inside the gates since Elvis died. Just driving by the house makes me sad.

My Dad passed away last year, also. And to me he was my hero. I feel the same way Awickedreigndrop feels.
