    Graceland

well im not sure about peoples reaction to priscilla but me i cant stand the woman and i use the word woman loosely and as for priscilla saving graceland she didnt save it elvis money did that and the employees that are there i cant think of anyone who likes priscillla she used elvis and then just threw him away like someones garbage she plays on our affections and love for elvis its our money now that keeps graceland going and im proud to say that i would give every dime i have to graceland open but then everyone knows elvis loved graceland and in my mind its our responsability to help keep graceland open and going strong
    yours truly
    an elvis fan

I don't know how everyone is going to react to this coment, but I am curious to what would have happend to Graceland if Precilla had done nothing to restore Graceland. You can compare lpictures and see the big change with Graceland to what it used to be and the way it looks now.I know that alot of fans dislike Precilla
back when Elvis was alive and they like her even less now. She's done things that has made us mad,sad and I have even cried at times like when she was showing Graceland to american idols and the part where she was showing Elvis' resting place. She was acting like it was one more piece of Graceland to show off to visitors.
Now,I hate to admite it,but thanks to her we're abled to see what Elvis' world was like.we're abled to see where he lived and died.We can see the planes, the horces, his cars and much much more.Elvis' left us in 1977 and that's a long time ago,but I guess because of Graceland, his music and Precilla's effort to keep his memory alive he still selling records.Alot of famous singers had died after elvis like frank sinatra,John Lennon and we don't have access to their houses and personal belinging to see. What im saying is that everuthing is not bad with Precilla,i am sorry if I offend anyone by saying this.

    Cool

I think Elvis would still be selling records had Graceland not been opened and Elvis is a phenomenen unlike anything the world has previously known. He is timeless. Its very hard to comapre his legacy to anyone Elvis, as no one comes close.

Graceland had to be opened to the public as there wasn't going to be enough money for them to keep the house had they not. Graceland would have ahd to be sold had it not been opened up, Elvis left hardly any money when he died and it was just a mtetr of economics to open up the house.

Sony/BMG handle his records....not cilla and in my opinion untill recently have handled them very poorly.

Yeah, I saw that too and, recently when the Pres. visited they called her his "widow". I am rereading "Child Bride " right now and that explains alot. Her mother was in heaven being on that show! But reading this and watching that. What a joke that show was! I wish someone would do a serious movie exploiting the truth about pris, the colonel and all the others that were in it for the money. This "rewriting the history of Elvis" campaign is driving me nuts!
The book you mentioned "Child Bride", who wrote this?

I don't think anyone will be allowed to do a movie telling the real story of Priscilla and the rest of them. The reason I say this is because Lisa, Priscilla, and EPE have control of Elvis' name and anything to do with him and they're never going to allow a movie to be made about Elvis that puts a bad light on Priscilla. She's miss Queen Bee.

Yeah, she's always going on about how loyal Elvis' fans are. When she lived at Graceland she didn't like the fans very much. She admits that. She didn't like them hanging around all the time. Now, she has to like them. They do keep Graceland going. They love Elvis.

    OK.
Who tells you all Graceland would not be open to the public if it would have been sold ? Someboby could have come with the same idea, buy it and make it a museum. The world is full of historic houses like Ana Frank, Salvador Dal?, Edward Grieg, Andrew Jackson .... and they don?t belong to their family as far as i know.
The money would be in anothers hand but at least we wouldn?t have to endure all the crap from his ex-wife.

It is written by Suzanne Finstad. It gets alot of flak from EPE and Priscilla fans and , I think, might be the main reason for Elvis by the Presleys. Reading it, it is heavily supported and arguments over diputable things( mostly from Priscilla's book) are given for both sides. Priscilla was interviewed but refused to endorse it, probably after she found out where it was headed. The book is very well put together and makes a strong case. Thught provoking to say the least.

Donut, you have an interesting thought here. I've never thought of this. Do you think it would have done as well without his family being involved? Specifically, Lisa.

Elvis left the house to his daughter, father and grandmother. I would like to think that his home stays in his families hands. Never said that if someone bought it that they wouldent have opened it! I just think Elvis's wishes of keeping it in his families hands should be respected.

Yes, I think so because family always tend to stop projects or ideas for sentimental or image rights reason. Priscilla acts as if Elvis was born when they got married and died when she left, telling the story she wants for us to believe as if we were silly. And for Lisa well ... i think she doesn?t want to handle all her father image stuff and gives the granny something to keep her busy and keep her ego. A big mistake for me because Priscilla?s taste is too out of date. Besides Priscilla?s story about Elvis adiction to pills bores me to death, she should go out more and see all the drugs that run in the street nowadays, Elvis was a saint compared to half of the youngs in the world now.
For me Elvis was a victim of the lack of drug information of his time and i would want to see her in his shoes. And i would like to see Graceland the way he left it not the way it was when she lived there because his last years were too a part of his life that she refuses to accept because another woman was living there for the last 4 years of Elvis life, too bad for her image because young people would realise she isn?t his widow.
I think people out of the family circle would handle Graceland and Elvis image from a more fashioned and objective point of view, but that of course is just my point of view.

I know, this is just a what if ...
Things are what they are and nobody can change the past. But i?m not going to thank her for not not selling Graceland, went twice and paid for my tour ticket not thinking for a minut who owns the house now. Is Elvis what i?m interested in not his family.

It is cool to go, but is what you see authentic? So many stories, so many changes, it's hard to believe that anything at all is the way Elvis had it. He never threw anything away so they have so much to cycle through. Don't get me wrong, it's all great to see but it would have been nice to see it as Elvis left it with a different building set up for the rest. They could have had exhibits like "Elvis' living room circa 1964 " and so on. That way you could experience it both ways while remaining authentic and honest. I think it would have retained more of Elvis' spirit that way.

First of all, we have to give credit where credit's due. She has done a wonderful job with Graceland and especially for Lisa Marie as her father's estate from all accounts was in trouble at the time of his death. That being said, she's also taken plenty verbal shots at EP in the past, yet she continued to use the Presley last name as it's only benefited her. I also agree about Elvis By The Presley's, while I enjoyed seeing our guy in rare home movies, it should have been called, Elvis by the Beaulieu's.

    I really recommend child bride.

It is a different point of view to say the least.

True or not we will never know of course.

But the autor did interview lots of people.
