Thanks, Maurice...
I may consider going to Tupelo when I go to Graceland...

Franny, Tupelo is about 90 miles south east of Memphis.........just a stones throw, that is why so many visitors to Memphis are now making the trip.
Elvis returned to Tupelo throughout his life.
Thanks, Maurice...

I understood that it wasn`t the same house exactly how could it be after all these years but I would be very shocked and surprised to think it had been moved that would be disgraceful but as of now I dont believe it.
Wise at 16? Everyone knows wisdom comes with ageLighten up son. There is no need for unpleasantness here!
Roy Turner of Tupelo informed me by email the other day that HIS dad said the house may have been moved closer to the highway.
I guess researchers should track down the Birthplace Contractors, they would know.......... if they are still alive.
Life can be fun ...an example http://irelandtoo.blogspot.com
In reference to that Blog, Maurice - yes, that's all fine and dandy, but I'm sure there would have been a Statue created anyway. It is a great work of art and has pride of standing at Elvis' Birthplace - that sculptor is very talented and we've got his talent to thank for his work.
We've all done our wee bit in keeping Elvis' Legend alive and well...blah-di-blah...but let's put it in perspective: Elvis' Legend is only going to help your own self-promotion for a certain amount of time and to a certain degree.
I'm more interested in fans who actually met 'The King' or attended his concerts.

I think I missed something somewhere here............

Maurice, I'm not saying that you didn't play a part in getting the Statue project off the ground or denying you of your 15 seconds of fame or whatever, but let's put this into perspective - there are only two people who can really claim that the Statue is there because of them, one of these people has a great artistic talent for ensuring that such a worthwhile project can be achieved. The other person sadly is no longer with us and he had the greatest musical artistic talent...I think we all know who I am talking about.Originally Posted by MauriceColgan

Tupelo gave me honour of giving the signal for the turning on of the water the Water to the "Fountain of Life", 9th August 2003. Yours truly received a Framed Resolution from Mayor Larry K Otis. so I guess my little input was appreciated by the people that matter...including Michiel Van der Sommen the sculptor who spent a week here in our home.
This is all just matter of fact to me and no big deal, but we often get sourpusses spouting nonsense when they do not have all the facts.
Tupelo is important to Elvis fans and always will be. That's the bottom line. I'm finished with this thread...life is too short.....especially the rest of mine![]()

Yes, Tupelo is important to Elvis fans and I think it should be treated as a compulsory trip on any fans Memphis Itinerary, especially if they are visiting for the very first time.
I visited the birthplace in Tupelo before I entered Elvis' beloved Graceland.

Your welcome. It's a good read. Nothing like having a bit of solid information before entering a discussion!
The Sun Never Sets On A Legend...
I think it would be a great book to read, especially knowing how close Elvis was to his mother...
Thanks, 0349054 for recommending it! That's another book on my list I look forward to getting...![]()
