Did anyone else think this ftd was dissapointing? The song selections were good. I didn't like the fast songs. Jonnie B Good was an exception, but the rest were poor versions of good songs. Elvis' vocals sounded rushed and mumbled. The highlights of the cd were in my opinion jonnie B,seperate ways, and always on my mind. Although I have to say the more I listen to it the more I like it. But the fast songs for the most part sounded very un-inspired.
These were just rehearsal performances.
One of my favourite FTD's and I think the more you play the more you will begin to accept the performances for what they were - pure raw and stripped-down and giving us a fascinating insight into what shaped the documentary "Elvis On Tour". EP wasn't on the big stage whilst singing these songs, and he was merely preparing for his upcoming tour, so some of the faster numbers he was basically re-treading a run-through or two with them.

Yeah, you've got to remember that Elvis had no idea that his rehearsal recordings would be released 30+ years later.

I think this is a great release. Some songs were known from bootlegs but not is this quality. This CD is for very special because of the song 'Young And Beautiful'. This wasn't brought out yet and on my list to have in my collection.

What about See See Rider? That has to be the best-sounding 'studio' version of that song we've heard. Proud Mary is pretty rockin' too.
As Erik said, Y & B alone made this CD worth getting.
And as you said, rocker, it was great to have the movie versions of Johnny B. Goode (repeated verse, Elvis' reason to 'OK' JB's solo is made clear) Separate Ways (love the extended outtro, a perfect way to end the CD), and Always On My Mind (This Is Elvis & Great Performaces), which I always thought was superior to the master.
On that note, For The Good Times fits that bill for me as well.
All JMHO, of course, but this is one of the must-have FTDs.

I think Elvis did a very good job on Young and Beautiful. Personally it is better than his 1957 version. He sounds great and singing it with passion than his original version. The original is good too don't get me wrong but I love the version on the FTD better.
Yes, these were rehearsals but I think He knew He was being recorded and video taped, He should have put more into it. It's not like Professional video crews were regularly filming His 70's shows. I'm just talking about some of the faster numbers. They weren't awfull or anything, but when I ordered it I was hoping for something more like 70 or 68 intensity. Anyway, I also ordered The Memphis Sessions with it and it was great!
Although I don't think his 1972 rehearsal performances where bad, it's clearly visible, that he put a lot less into it than he did two years earlier. The lack of power is quite evident. The fun and the energy seem to be gone. But neverthenless Elvis still managed to do some great versions of "Young And Beautiful" (he really should have re-recorded that one in a proper studio session), "Always On My Mind" and some others. I personally like this cd.

The other performances that stand-out for me include "A Big Hunk O' Love" with James Burton in fine form and probably performing his best guitar solo of this song that is currently released. I love the slow tempo version of "Hound Dog" and once again JB is ever-present with those silky licks on this one. Next up for me is "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" and whether it's in the studio as here or live on stage '72 this is always a clap-a-long pleaser.
The other performances on the CD that immediately spring to mind are "For The Good Times", "Release Me", "Always On My Mind" and "Separate Ways". The best two numbers for me from these rehearsals are "Burning Love" (some great backing from the TCB Band as well as some great vocalising from J.D. & The Stamps) and "Never Been To Spain" - it's Elvis' passionate vocal, James' guitar playing and Glen's piano that sets the hairs standing on end on this one.

Im not agree that Elvis On Tour Rehearsals is a disapointing release by FTD. you are right that there are better versions of some of the songs that was done better live. The rehearsals sounds good to me anyway. my favourite song here is the version of Johnny Be Goode
was Always On My Mind and Seperate Ways rehearsals or was the songs filmed while they recorded
