Maybe it's best to see "Professional" impersionators who people knew about (With a voice who sounds like Elvis)
This weekend our local fair had an elvis impersonator as their star attraction.I could'nt wait to go and took my daughter who loves Elvis's movies but had never seen one of his concerts.
Well this guy was CRAP and had absolutley no class. He arrived in a rusted out chevy truck late and the rushed onstage smoking. After singing a couple of songs which didn't realy sound much like Elvis he started saying things like "dont let the lights and cameras throw you . and "I'm drinking Elvis aid cos I got what we performers call a vegas throat." By now everyone was getting up and leaving and my daughter asked If I could take her home.
I wanted this to show my daughter the Elvis I know and like but instead she was totaly put off the by the whole thing.
Should'nt there be some kind of minimum standard put out by EPE inc. to which an Elvis impersonator has to perform to?. Being an Elvis inpersonator is like being a teacher to the young and a memory to the old it is not an excuse to be overweight and sing like shite.

Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.'
That's why he still keep singing a song
Personally, I always stay as far as I can from Elvis impersonators. I'm afraid of them the way some people are afraid of clowns. Except that they kind of are clowns...![]()
I have to agree with you Lee 82, both affect me the same way.![]()
I like your analogy They realy arelike clowns and I dont know what goes on in their heads but I'm sure its not good.
I think though its sad that we have these clowns that are impersonating the worlds most famous and talented rock and roll singer of all time.
I'm not sure about showing your daughter an impersonator to see the Elvis you know! it'd have a better effect if she watched real Elvis concerts on film, no impersonator will ever match the stage presence of Elvis.Originally Posted by Supertigre
But I know what you mean about being dissapointed, i have seen some terrible ones, which is why i generally stay clear of them now.
Although there are some fairly good impersonators out there, they will never be Elvis, so i suppose we should just expect exactly that - a characiture![]()
'I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here'http://members.home.nl/wouw02/gifjes...gifs%20019.gif
I just gave her the video of TTWII which I love and think is Elvis's best era.I was just in Vegas and it was very moving to be in the Hilton where it all took place.![]()
Yeah, I agree with you fellaz. For better or for worse, the impersonators can never be Elvis. I don't think it's inherently bad to interpret somebody else's music. Elvis did that on quite an occasion for sure, but it was his style, his arrangement, his everything.. He was no lousy thief!
As for clowns, I think it's an entirely different kind of performing.. altogether! Clowns can be unique and they're not necessarily copying someone else.
Like Elvis said, this world's a clown with his nose painted red..
all the goons I left behind,
memories still linger..
So true.Originally Posted by EnigmaticSun

Another difference between Elvis impersonators and clowns: Clowns are funny on purpose. Elvis impersonators are funny unintentionally!
