Like we all know: this is a great concert, if not one of Elvis' best.

The first time it was released was in the late seventies, early eighties on the Spirit Of America label, as a wonderful double LP album. Back then it was one of the best Elvis imports (or bootlegs) available.

It was released on CD several times. Besides the Auld Lang Syne release in this topic, it also was released under the title: Pittsburgh 76 (Rags to Riches), on the Crown label, in slightly better sound quality. Though many claimed this was a CDR release, it actually was a "real" cd release.

And as we know it finally was released on the FTD label last year. That release can be found in the FTD section on this board.
The sound did improve slightly over the import releases, but on occasion the sound has its flaws.
There was a big discussion going on, whether FTD should release audience recordings like this one.

I think they should.
Not any audience recording, but the ones that mean a lot to us fans.

Don't get me wrong, I love this concert. But what I find weird is that nobody has problems with Elvis' drug problem during this short tour, while everyone is going mad when someone likes a concert from the september/october '74 tours.

It's no secret that in december 1976 Elvis was going through his fluid cocaine period. This, along with his new love (Ginger) gave him this extreme boost. You can hear what a happy person with lots of energy can do. During that september/october '74 period you can hear what a sad person with lots of energy can do.

Nonetheless, this concert (like all shows from this short tour) is fantastic. And I prefer the sound of this release over the FTD release (although the FTD artwork is superior in my opinion).

Too bad that 2 shows from this short tour has been recorded (and released) on soundboard, while the best (this one) has been recorded by someone in the audience. Just imagine having this show in the same quality as FTD's "The Spring Tours".
