Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.'
That's why he still keep singing a song
Well..I was there on August 17, 1977 came by special air palne trip by Air Canada with 300 other members from the club..I stayed in Memphis until the 22 of August 1977 and to be honest with you I find it very strange fot the next 4-5 days..everybody was talking about that story..Elvis died..Elvis is dead..who kill Elvis?...and on and on. It was also more than 100 degree Far. and there was a lot of kids including myself at 20 years old and already involved in the Elvis world since I was 13, (1970). That was my 3rd trips to States and my second o in the same year (1977) because on May 24, I was in Augusta (Maine) for my second Elvis show. That was very special and strange because he was not supposed to died that way..that`s what we thought!Originally Posted by stefan S

Elvis's aunt Delta Biggs lived at the mansion until her death in 1993.
That's right, and that's the reason why the kitchen and her bedroom (previously Vernon and Gladys' room, redecorated as such) were opened to the public not long thereafter.
It's wild that there was somebody living there while the tours were going on. My wife saw her there in her wheelchair on the back patio during a tour in '93.
...you won't forget me when I go.
From all accounts she wasn't very happy with the fans being allowed to tour the mansion.....bit of a dragon was Aunt Delta....

I agree with you Caroline, but on the other hand; imagine yourself living in a house wich is never yours !! Suppose every single day of your life being surrounded by people you don`t even know, i guess that must be hard too.Originally Posted by carolynlm

ELVIS IS KING AND YOU REMEMBER THAT !
Yes Aunt Delta was quite a tyrant!!![]()
Give her some credit though. She stayed at Gracland during the tours. How would you feel if some was touring through your place where you lived?I would kicked that person out if I can.

She tried to kick them out! She cussed at fans, Cilla and Soden had the final say, she was powerless

She lived IN the mansion??
I've always heard that the family members lived in the houses/trailers in the back corner of the grounds. which is still closed to the public. and his parents room was used by Dodger until her death, which was before Graceland was ever opened to the public.
Apparently, she lived in the room that is just off the kitchen...
Delta was know to have a fierce temper.....and yes, apparently she did let the fans know she wasn't happy with them walking around 'her' house. I often wonder though, if Priscilla didn't offer to have her somewhere else, but she wanted to stay Graceland for whatever reason.

She wanted to stay cos it was her home and here was her nephew's ex-wife trying to turf her out!
