    Evel Kneivel and Elvis

I know this is a bit out there but please bare with me. I just saw an Evel Kneivel clip of him in 1970 wearing a white v neck jumsuit with a high collar and a cape! Is it possible that Elvis was a bit influenced by him especially about the cape? Evel was extremely famous at the time so Elvis must have watched him on TV. I was shocked to see it and to know that it was before Elvis started wearing capes. Evel did look cool riding that motorcycle with the cape blowing out behind him. But I just kept thinking, He looks like Elvis on a motorcycle!

    blue suede clues

I haven't got a clue. As far as I know, Elvis' jumpsuits were more or less based upon karate-suits, allowing a lot of movement and air to pass through, cooling the body. I'm sorry that I can't help you with the Knievel-part.
all the goons I left behind,
    memories still linger..

Yeah, it supposed to be a mix between karatesuits (for being able to do his kicks and swinning onstage) and his childhood hero, Capt. Marvel Jr.:

    On Wikipedia:
Elvis Presley was a big fan of Captain Marvel, Jr., and styled his trademark haircut after that of the comic book character. In addition, Elvis' stage outfits (with a half-cape similar to those worn by the Marvels) and his TCB logo (with a Marvel-esque lightning bolt insignia) also show inspiration from Captain Marvel, Jr.

    Elvis Presley, Comic Book Fan

Who is YOUR favorite superhero? Or, who is your favorite non-super hero? And WHY?

We often idolize those who most closely resemble our current situation, as well as those who embody the ideals and values we wish to achieve ourselves. In other words, [IMGl]http://dialbforblog.com/archives/88/cmj23_sept1942.gif[/IMGl]we tend to like either who we ARE, or who we WANT TO BE. This is part of the genius of Superman, from whom all other superhero characters flow. The Superman mythos combines both aspects of hero worship in a single character, through the use of the “secret identity.” We ARE like Clark Kent, and we WANT TO BE like Superman.

In my view, THIS is why Elvis idolized Cap Jr. -- because the Captain Marvel Jr./Freddy Freeman character was a perfect mirror image of the once and future Elvis. Freddy represented Elvis as he was, and Captain Marvel Jr. represented Elvis as he wished to be. (Pictured right: Alex Ross sketch of "King Marvel," a possible future version of Captain Marvel Jr. from "Kingdom Come.")

[IMGr]http://dialbforblog.com/archives/88/king_marvel.gif[/IMGr]Freddy Freeman was a poor, crippled young orphan; Elvis was poor, and neglected by his father. Freddy said "Captain Marvel!" and the lightning struck; Elvis said “Colonel Parker!” and the lightning struck. And what was "the lightning"?

The lightning was inspiration -- the power to use the works of others as sparks for one’s own creativity, and to fashion from them something entirely NEW. In blending strains of the Grand Ole Opry and Beale Street with country and the blues, this is exactly what Elvis did, revolutionizing music -- and the entire nation -- in the process.

Immortal Elvis will always be remembered, and as long as Elvis endures, the world will remember Captain Marvel Jr., too -- because there is a Captain Marvel Jr. comic book stored in the Elvis archives! This precious piece of memorabilia serves to remind us that powers bestowed at the Rock of Eternity will now rock FOR an eternity.

The King is dead -- LONG LIVE THE KING!

I actually once got to meet Evel Knievel and get his autograph and said to him that I always liked him and that having grown up in the 70s Elvis and him were the two people I most thought of as representing the decade. He said back "Good company Elvis was very cool" . That actually made me like Evel even more. I think Elvis suits influenced a lot of people in the 70s because everyone from David Cassidy to Englebert Humperdinck (you old enough to have lived in the 70s will know them) wore them at one point.

He did do a lot of the same ones. His son was actually a better daredevil, went further etc but he isn't as popular.

A friend of mine is a big Harley guy and he goes to all these swap meets and conventions and stuff for Motorcycles and the promoters hired him (Evel) to come in and sign autographs. So he told me and I tagged along and waited in line for an hour I bet and I was one of the lucky ones because he was supposed to stay 4 hours but left after two. This was a few years back. I hear he still does those shows, but less and less now he's had all his health problems he still signs for money but does more and more at his house and then they sell them.
