    Lost Tapes

    Hi there!

A few years ago, a new song called "I'm roustabout" was discovered.

It was an unreleased track from the recordings session for the movie "Roustabout"

I think this is very interesting, so i would like to know if you think it's more lost tapes that we didn't know about.

Sun records tapes, unreleased movie songs, home recordings or maybe unreleased songs from the 70s?

Well, personaly i don't think it exsist more lost tapes, but you'll never know.

    What do you think?
Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain't got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.'

That's why he still keep singing a song

No, one can never be sure. That's true.

So it's not like you can say "no, there are no more lost tapes around". I'm pretty sure some things eventually will turn up somehow, somewhere.

One of the latest discoveries is supposed to be a very early recording of "Rock Around The Clock".
It's probably a poor sounding live performance from the Louisiana Hayride shows.
There's also a rumor about a version which is a medley: "Good Rockin' Tonight/Rock Around The Clock". Also from The Hayride Shows.

But considering the source of these recordings (like f.i. Hearts Of Stone, which also was a so called discovery) the sound will probably be very poor.

And of course there's the on going rumors about several songs Elvis recorded, mostly private recordings.

can't understand that it is possible to find lost tapes today. after recording a song do you just forget the song and find it 30 years later. Interesting thread.

My opinion about the "lost" tapes:
RCA and the other record company's stored the recordings they didn't bring out becouse they didn't liked them into a storage place. Then when Elvis died and they found out that he wouldn't lose his popularity, they decided to "lose/forget" those recordings to "find" and SELL them again someday. The fans sure would pay money for it. Just look at the prices of some of the FTD cd's.
I could be wrong and paranoid but I think there are just to much "forgotten" and "lost" recordings that are found these days. It could be possible that you lose a couple of tapes but every year they are coming up with more and more newly discovered recordings. Also home recordings, Graceland is big but I don't think that by now there are any places left in the house or other storage places of Elvis wich aren't fully examined after his death. Also the storage rooms of the Record company's can't be that disorganized that after 30 years they still find "lost" tapes.
Who knows, maybe RCA just had a very bad storage system, and some of the tapes would just fell into forgotten corners of those storage rooms. Maybe they had a corrupt employee that "lost" a couple of tapes to sell them by himself to private collectors. Problably we'll never know and maybe I'm just worrying to much. I should be happy with all the new material they bring out of my biggest idol

    Greetings from a sunny Holland
