Thread: The Packaging & Publicity for the DVDs

The Packaging & Publicity for the DVDs

Well, no prizes for discovering that the Aloha DVD cover is not very different from what was intially told to us, was only the "Inside carton /box" - it seems it has some silver glitter added that's all......and even less for finding that there is absolutely NO publicity beyond the various Elvis message boards & internet sites from EPE or BMG .......

How many times must an major Elvis release suffer for lack of publicity, for these people to realise? How many times must we plead for attractive covers that will catch the eye -to people who just will not see?

The answers my friends is blowin in the wind - and will continue to do so as far as Elvis is concerned.

The only saving grace is that almost everything recorded/available for these events has been included and in very good quality for the packages.

Ha but on Elvis news.com it tells us there will be lots of publicity, on tv and various magazines so it seems they have actually seen the light :worthy:

sorry but i have to disagree about the cover......

to me thats the best cover in a long time.....modern and very smooth....at last rca and bmg have found a decent design ,aron

Glad you like the covers. The 68 cover is passable because the name Elvis is in large letters. The Aloha cover ....I do not find that "eyecatching" in a shop competing with hundreds of other sets....or even in an individual ad.

BTW ...the publicity mentioned is for UK only and during the "silly season" as described by Todd Slaughter(cheap ad -rates).... and since I do not know the programes quoted, maybe some fan from the UK can tell us if any are during prime time.

I really wish these guys would hire some sky divers like "Honeymoon in vegas" spelling out Elvis in the sky or a baloon/ Blimp telling the world that it is 50 years of Elvis ......that would get automatic mention in the news and papers, but guess what..it would be costly right ?!

I sincerly hope I am wrong and I'll be glad to come here and apologise - but it just may be on the scale of " 2nd to none" or it will focus on 5o years of RnR but not these DVDs themselves!

I have to agree with E.L.V.I.S. on this one....personally, from the initial photos I've seen of the packaging, they look quite good in my opinion! Of the two sets, I personally like the '68 cover a bit better, but I think the ALOHA cover will be more eye-catching than it looks in the photos once you see the silver glitter on the cover!

The booklets also look quite nicely done...it looks like lots of photos will be included in the ALOHA booklet, at least from the photo that E.L.V.I.S. posted!

I am VERY excited to receive these DVD's....hopefully no last minute delays will pop up!!

As for the advertising for these DVD's, I have to agree with jbgude that so far, there has been NO promotion for these sets, aside from the internet and word of mouth!! I have seen NO promotional advertisements for these sets in any of the major retailers around my area (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target)...I certainly hope once they are out, the advertisements will start...although I am probably only dreaming here!!

I'm pleasantly supriced about the covers (thanks for the picture Aron). Looking forward to receiving them

I haven't read anywhere anything about these two sets. And that's a bad thing. I really hope that there is a budget somewhere to plug these sets.

After seeing the full layouts here, I definitely do feel better about the cover art/packaging than I did. But the publicity issue is one I am definitely most concerned about. It could be the most perfect cover ever done but wouldn't matter too much if the word isn't gotten out.

I think the artwork is great. Especially on the '68 DVD. That one is just beautiful

The comeback cover is awsome! i bought my copies (comeback and aloha) for only ? 50,-!! in Utrecht and also the new at sun cd and as a gift the first lucky 70 buyers where getting the that's all right promo cd for free, i was one of those 70 ... the new '68 is really great the picture is as clear as you can get, the only minor (in my opnion) is the sound. The sound didn't improve much over the older release from lightyear. But there is a little difference in sound, the audience isn't that much in front and thats good, on the other hand Elvis his voice is as loud as the sound of his band...thats the thing i don't like to much because sometimes it's hard to hear him. But the way they edit this special is great! like the aloha the used some fantastic options to put Elvis all over your screen. I think this dvd's will sell a lot and for a long time! the estate can be proud of them selfs, the did a great job on both sets!!! lets hope that in the near future they can do the same thing for the TTWII movie...

I think they look great, and I'm really looking forward to them.

Patrick is it true that there is an error on the Aloha dvd? I read somewhere that it would jump from his arrival to a next chapter. Hope not, maybe you can enlighten us?

  12. #12
    Yeah forgot to mention that
On the Aloha that we bought in Utrecht is an error...
Just when it's time to see the helicopter coming in it skips to the 2001 theme..i will contact fame music today (that shop was selling the dvd's in Utrecht) and ask them what to do with that error.
I think they will say: hey you got a discount of more that ? 20,-! so why complain?
The problem is that non of the buyers have any proof that they really bought this sets, we just paid it and got the dvd's...so the people who didn't buy this dvd's also can claim the error on the disc and hoping to get a free dvd..
I'm willing to send the dvd with the error on it back to fame records store and to get a error free one back.

I just send an e-mail to them and waiting for response..as soon as i get a reaction i will post that here! i really have to say that it is not a big problem for me that the error is on that disc, but if they will replace that disc..than i be really happy and it's a good service from Fame music. But let's wait for reaction..

I hope the error is fixed before it makes it's way to Australia.

I really like the covers and until we see them in the shops we won't really know how they are going to be displayed. Will they have their own 'space' on the shelves, like they did with 30 #1 Hits. I know some of the DVD's that they sell now have their own shelving so to speak. As we know these will be released in the States 2 weeks ahead of Australia and the UK, I can't see BMG doing any full blown advertising until at least 2 weeks before the due date here. The good things is as well, that a lot of people who don't go on the net or belong to any sort of fan clubs or message boards have friends and families who know they are Elvis fans and will probably be grateful there is something else they can buy for birthdays, fathers day, which is coming up here in September and Christmas. It's really count down time.....

Guys ..I am glad that most of the opinions seem to indicate the covers are looking good. It would seem the USA covers are "Hardback" type and not the soft normal DVD cases.

What is it like in Holland/Nederlands ? and is freely available in the stores already ? Somebody on FECC mentioned that one Dutch shop chain already has it on sale....anybody got information if MediaMarkt also has it in the shops ?

I am going to try my luck this afternoon...... (h)will be back tomorrow to tell you if I got it or not!

Just wish they had some publicity going.......

Man, I just read that about the error on disc one of the ALOHA DVD set!!

I hope that error isn't on the U.S. versions also!!! I am so excited that the BIG DAY will be here tomorrow, and that will absolutely ruin my excitement on the ALOHA set if that error has found its way into the U.S. copies as well!!
