Even though I'm in my early twenties, I don't really like modern country music. I like older stuff, like Patsy Cline. My dad used to listen to her all the time when I was a kid, and I still remember how upset I felt when I found out she'd been dead for decades!
George Jones
Kenny Chesney
Waylon Jennings
George Strait
Hank Williams Jr
Dierks Bentley
Conway Twitty

Interesting topic - I like Elvis' country music, though he wasn't exclusively country-minded..
Other stars that I admire: Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, (he's.. relaxed), Jim Reeves, Roy Orbison and Jerry Lee Lewis are among my favourites..
As far as modern country is concerned: I don't understand it really, though I do enjoy Billy Gilman's music, because he's also interested in that good old-timey music - of course he sings contemporary music, but songs such as Roy Orbison's 'Crying' are also part of his repetoire. On top of that he has got a heart.

Awwwwwwww yes, a sweet kiss.I miss his first band they were the BEST!!
OOps, a quote about Keith Urban
To me Conway Twitty and George Jones are probably the best. Tammy Wynette, Charlie Rich, Roger Miller are also favorites from the old days.
Of the latest breed of stars, George Strait is a class act. Also like Brad Paisley, Terri Clark, Martina McBride and others. A newer group I like is called Little Big Town. They have harmonies that remind me of the Fleetwood Mac on the late 70's/early 80's.
"I can't see my reflection in the water. I can't speak the sounds that show no pain. I can't hear the echo of my footsteps. I can't remember the sound of my own name" - Tomorrow Is A Long Time
Glad to see some others recognize jerry lee Lewis as one of the greatest country singers of all time. george Jones and Conway Twitty also should be mentioned but the undisputed King of Country music and one of the greatest songwriters of all time stands above them all. The great Hank Williams. Elvis was not too shabby either..he could pick up the phone book and sing that and it would sound great.
Patsy Cline, Vince Gill, Rascal Flatts
Johnny Cash And Tamara Walker..
