Thread: suppose you met him...

    suppose you met him...

I've been in the kitchen cooking and drinking some Shiraz listening to my ipod filled with Elvis. It's on shuffle so I've heard everything from Such a Night to Unchained Melody to Long Black Limosine...

I got to thinking-- if I got the chance to meet him and I only had the chance to same something quick--what would I say?

Geez...If I Can Dream is on now...and my wife who wasn't fan when we met is singing along...

Man, what this guy means to me...

I'm not sure what I would say--what would you say?

I'd say hello something low key. You know he's heard it all before, so I'd just thank him for all the joy he as brought to me, how his music is the greatest thing ever. How is voice is so unique. See now I'm sounding like a million others. I don't know. Anyway we all know he is just what's been said "THE KING"

I would say "Elvis I hope you've found your piece of mind and found what you were searching for. The years that have passed have only proved that you are the best there is, best there was, and the best there ever will be."
    On the hills of Georgia
    Across the plains of Tennessee
I've seen and I've done most everything
That a man can do or see

if i met him (if only!) i would want to tell him how much i love and how his fans would love him no matter what. i wish someone could have warned him, but i dont know whether id have wanted to do that. i dont know... he's probably heard it all before. just to have seen him would have been enough...

I would say hello and thank him for all that he did and all of the memories left us
"How do I get placed in situations like this? Ah hell, I guess it's all part of showbusiness "~ Elvis in his limo on his way to perform in Omaha, NE on June 19th 1977

I would say "Thank you for doing the soundtrack to my life"
"When You Let Your Head get Too Big, It'll Break your Neck" Elvis Presley.

I would get a blackout I think and then ... I would thank him for being there and giving me so much in my life and say how much I admire him ...

It would be a shock to meet him, so I would probably be at a lost for words
then after a few minutes, I would probably be crying and hopefully by then he would have said something to break the ice...I would probably tell him what a big fan I am of his music and his life..It's hard to say unless in you're in that situation..

I'd say that if you wanted to really talk you would have to remain low key and not starstruck. My day did get to meet him and escort him in 1974 and he remained low key and professional and Elvis talked pretty consistently to him for about two hours.
Got my family, my kids, my books and my music, I'm good, yeah, I'm good.....

Your dad met him? That's great! Where did he meet him?
Was there anything in their conversation that you can share with us?
I'd be interested in hearing about it...

    Thanks,
    Franny

I often fantasize this topic. Lol. I think I would first be speachless (and I'm sure Elvis would laugh about it, because normally people ask him his shirt of his body.Lol) Maybe even Elvis then would start a conversation to break the ice. I think I would let him talk first so he can talk about things that he wants to talk about. Questions then come during the conversation. I would try to be a soulmate, someone that makes him feel at ease and someone that he wants to have around him. Knowing that he can trust me and can convide his deeper thoughts to.

    Be safe and take care,

There's a picture of them in the gallery and I posted some of the story there. Being so long ago, and the fact that noone wrote anything down, it's hard for my dad to remember specifics. They talked about football( both fans) , their kids ( lucky me!), the fans (he showed him scars on his hand he said were from the fans), music in general, police work.. Dad said he was constantly tapping his fingers and feet to the music and two or three times stuck his head out the windows and got the fans all crazy. My Mom and I were crazy that he didn't get an autograph, but dad said he was there to escort not ask for autographs. I can, now, see his point, but I was pretty upset back then. He also said he was more interested in talking to the policemen, fans, workers etcc. than the big wigs that were coming in to meet him ( ie.. the mayor). I thought that was pretty cool! My dad also remembers a giant tear on his jacket under the arm and thought that was strange and that that must have been a favorite. I wish he remembered more and maybe he will over time. I'll post more if he does.
    Thanks for asking!

Might as well post that pic again! ( that's my dad in the middle behind Elvis and looking at the camera)

ps. matter of fact, I think I'll change that to my avatar!

Thanks a lot for the picture and the story...your dad was very lucky and yes, it's a pity not to have an autoghraph but this picture is a very nice memory of that meeting!

I'm a very calm person... but in that situation I would either have cried or fainted.

    Menwithbrokenhearts,

please ask your dad for more details. Love the story that goes with the picture.
What was his impression of his friends who were also with him . I see Red West and Sony West.
Elvis was stunning in that picture.

Wow Leroy, you are indeed a lucky man. I am sure that you will never forget your experience meeting Elvis. (That would be a dream come true for all of us!!)

Do you still have the sideburns?? Everytime I see someone with sideburns, I think of Elvis. There are still a few men that have them and look good with them.

Wonderful of you to Share You are one of the lucky ones!!

MenWithBrokenHearts, Thanks for sharing your story and picture. Your dad was sure a lucky guy but probably did not relize it at the time.(Busy trying to keep the fans away!!) Wonderful story
