    Question gay version

I dont know if this is true or not, but i read on some internet site that Elvis did a gay version of Are you lonesome tonight at some show in the 70s.

    Is this true ????????

    all these things

I also remember that Elvis sang 'too bad you're queer... my dear'! I think it was a alternative version of It's Now Or Never, unless I'm very much mistaken. Anyway you look at it, not the medication but Charlie was the cause of Elvis' laughter during Are You Lonesome Tonight.

I always thought the "gay version" was just a general term for the arrangement in 1976 and 1977, when Charlie was holding the microphone up close to Elvis. It kind of looked like Elvis was singing to Charlie. Charlie would pat his own hair as though receiving a compliment, and Elvis would say something like "No, not you Charlie". It happened a lot in late '76 and '77.

I'm sure Charlie really enjoyed all of this, but personally I hate it. Thank goodness Elvis did the straight version for the CBS cameras on June 21.

I have footage of the gay version and its mostly Charlie mugging and giving gay gazes Elvis's way, cracking him up. At one point Elvis says "I'm gonna kill you Charlie" and laughs.

it takes a lot of energy to hate

It seems to me that Elvis made a lot of 'gay' jokes; one of the songs suitable for this purpose is 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'. Thanks also to 0349054 for explaining where/when the queer comment is to be found during 'It's Now Or Never'. I think that Elvis wasn't insecure about his orientation, so making jokes about being gay was no big deal. It was very different when a person tried to touch him when he didn't want it; in such a case he could react with anger. I just wonder why people hate the 'gay scenes' during 'Are You Lonesome Tonight'; if Elvis didn't hate it, why should we?

Anyway you look at it, sometimes people are exaggerating. For instance, when people get sick because of songs such as 'Danny Boy', scenes in Blue Hawaii ('Beach Boy Blues') or the gay scenes with Charlie they're just afraid of innocence and practical jokes..!

Well guys, Elvis just liked to joke around and I love it when I hear him having fun. He had a kind of humor that not many people have. I always admire the way he changed lyrics into funny ones. It just shows what a great entertainer he was.
