Grammy's and Elvis

Hey, I have a question!!!

# How many grammy's does Elvis have, is it just the one for the gospelalbum (How great thou art" or "Your hand in mine"") or just for one song?
# And is there footage of him receiving it, or didn't they do a TV show about it back then?
# And what year was that?

Started wondering about it when I saw this years grammy stuff (U2 and Kelly Claxon).

Hi! I've found these informations about Elvis and Grammy Awards and others achievements...I knew he got many nominations but he received just 3 for his gospel music. I've never seen a picture about it so I don't know if they ever broadcasted the event on tv at that time....sorry!Bye

Elvis received 14 Grammy nominations from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). His three wins were for gospel recordings - the album How Great Thou Art (1967), the album He Touched Me (1972) and his live Memphis concert recording of the song How Great Thou Art (1974). In 1971, NARAS also recognized him with their Lifetime Achievement Award (known then as the Bing Crosby Award ...in honor of its first recipient). Elvis was 36 years old at the time. Five of Elvis' recordings have been inducted into the NARAS Hall of Fame - his original 1956 recordings of Hound Dog (inducted 1988) and Heartbreak Hotel (inducted 1995), his original 1954 recording of That's All Right (inducted 1998), his original 1969 recording of Suspicious Minds (inducted 1999), and his original 1956 recording of Don't Be Cruel (inducted 2002). The Hall of Fame recognizes "early recordings of lasting, qualitative or historical significance," with many inductees being recordings that were created and released before the 1958 inception of NARAS and the Grammy Awards.

I have heard somewhere that Colonel Parker asked for a disturbing ammount of money for Elvis to perform at the Grammy show. So it was decided just to present the award to Elvis in Las Vegas. And even there they where only taken to a small backstage room, where they saw Elvis for a few minutes, some pictures where made and that was it. I don't know if it is true, but it certainly could be one of the Cononels ideas. No money - no Elvis.

You're right that is what happen. I have seen the pictures that was taken. Elvis was not in his dressing room, he was in another backstage room. He was supposed to be at the Grammy's to sing How Great Thou Art but the Colonel was asking way to much money just to do one song and Grammy's said no to that so they presented the award to him in a small backstage room that was only a few feet from the stage.

I Agree!! What an event that would have been , to see him perform that great song on the Grammy's! It would have been historical!
