    unchained melody

I'm sure this has been covered before but I'm relatively new...

I love this song and am curious about some things:

    1. Did Elvis always play the piano on it?
    2. I have the Moody Blue release and the Pittsburgh--wasn't there a different one that was released as a single with Softly as i leave you?
    3. Is the MB version filled with overdubs--ie is Sherril Neilsen hitting the high notes
    4. What year did he start playing it?
    5. What do you think is the best version?

    Thanks for indulging me...

    1. Yeah, always, at least, that's what they told me.
    2. Don't know.
    3. Yeah, I believe it's him. It isn't Elvis.

    5. The version from Cincinatti, the concert before the last concert! It has a beautiful intro, and Elvis sings it like "a kind of magic"...

    1. As far as we know, yes.
    2. Yes, this is the Rapid City, June 21st 1977 version.
    3. Yes, the undubbed version can be found on FTD's Springtours '77
    4. 1976, December 27th 1976 to be exactly
    5. June 20th 1977, fantastic version

Elvis could hit the notes, the last notes of the song To-oo-oo-oo meeeee are done in falsetto(for me its the easiest part of the song to sing, its the full voice parts that most people crack on) But Elvis depending on his condition did get assists on this from Sherril. One of the Imperials on the DVD about Elvis and Gospel music said Elvis could hit the notes but liked to have a lot of voices hitting
them at the same time just in case he did have voice trouble.

Yes, it's on an import cd called "Since Cincinatti" (click on link for more info). THis show is so much better than the Rapid City/Omaha shows (used for the CBS Elvis In Concert special).
