I like to add a few here also :
My Babe (1969 In Person CD)
Blue Suede Shoes(1969 In Person CD)
Power Love(Depending which on which take)
rams
.the image is one thing and the human being is another...it's very hard to live up to an image......................
How about James' awesome guitar work on:
Fools Rush In
Winter Wonderland
Sonny
In addition to what has already been mentioned, I'm partial to the guitar work on "Too Much" and "I Need Your Love Tonight". James Burton's furious picking in the Aloha Rehearsal and Main event is also considerable - he really took "Hound Dog", for example, to a whole new level.
I agree with all of the above and I would also mention, "A Fool Such As I". One of my favorites.
"I can't see my reflection in the water. I can't speak the sounds that show no pain. I can't hear the echo of my footsteps. I can't remember the sound of my own name" - Tomorrow Is A Long Time
Ive always been a fan of Elvis Guitar Players, so this is great...
Ill say, about Scotty Moore, The Man:
My Favourites are: (no particular order)
Hound Dog. Ancient psychedelia as Moore him self descrived it.
My Baby Left Me. Pure Scotty Moore sound, with the echosonic and slight distortion sound.
Mystery Train and Trying To Get To You. So mysterious, like something coming out of the highway darkness midnight horizont radio waves... what?
Milkcow Blues. All the old rural blues feel on it.
Baby Lest Play House, I Got a Woman. If this is not hot for you you maybe dead.
Just Because. Its guitar wise as Keith Richards put it.
Lawdy Miss Clawdy, Tutti Frutti, So Glad your Mine, Rip it up, Shake Rattle and Roll. Pure 50's rock guitar magic.
When It Rains it Really Pours '57. Scotty did play the Blues.
Did anyone notice how Moore changed his style by '66 on a song called You Gotta Stop?
A Guy Called Hank Garland.
Big Hunk Of Love. This is one of the wildest crazyest Elvis single records, the guitar matches Elvis atomic vocals on thisone.
Little Sister. Any explanation?
Remember Jerry Red?
Big Boss Man. That intro mathces anything by Dylan on John Wesley Hardin or any of the acoustic tracks on the Beatles 68 White Album.
Guitar Man/What I Say. Who needs an electrc guitar for a solo if you got this guy in your band.
James Burton.
Baby What You Whant Me To Do. Live 69 Any one. A Must.
What I Say. Live 69. Unique pickin, its so strange but is great.
Mystery Train/Tiger Man 69-70, See See Rider 70-72. Who can Mach that Man?
Stranger In My Own Home Town. '70 Jam for TTWII. A Blues with a wha wha distortion pedal, man this guy behind Elvis made of this performance something that can mach anything from Hendrix at the Isle of Wight same august.
Johnny B Good TTWII Rehearsals. Sound much more raw and wild than in the 69 live versions or later versions.
Merry Christmas Baby. THis is no christmas song, I mean it is but, this is an old blues song by Lue Baxter and Johny Moore, I think this is one of Elvis greatest blues performances and Jame Burton pickin both in the live Jam and spetialy on the dubbed playing he did for the single are a jewell.
Ill Be Home On Christmas Day. Electric Guitar version. Marvellous mix of country and blues playing.
Never Been to Spain. So James Burton isn it?
Just a Little Bit and FInd Out WHats Happening. Dont give me that Shit that after the aloha thera wasnt anything more, hear James on the solos of both songs and forget the crap about how bad the July stax sessions where, those solos are a must among greates guitar solos on Elvis songs.
Promised Land and You Asked Me To. Sounds sweet isnt it?
Tiger Man Jam 75 cool!
Pleding My Heart, Alt Take on Platinium, it breaks you apart isnt it? somehow it reminds me a little bit the Sun sound.
On James Acoustic Side I Love: DOnt Think Twices its all Right, Funny How Times Slips Away, Make THe Wolrd Go Away, the instrumental I Didnt Make It On Playing Guitar, and Early Mornig Rain.
On a sweet sweet note: Remeber the guitar playing on I Need SOme Body To Lean On? thats another great one, dont remember who play on that one, it was Billy Strange? Oh and remember the ultra psychedelic surf guitar sounds of the great Tommy Tadesco on the '68 comeback special studio recordings and standup shows?

I am so glad you are on this board! Some great suggestions! I went back and listened to most of these and I couldn't agree more! I also am glad you mentioned some of the great session guitarists that usually don't get any mention, ie.. the great Jerry Reed. (always loved that guy and always thought he never got due respect in the Guitar world. Man can that guy pick!)Originally Posted by Raised on Rock

Got my family, my kids, my books and my music, I'm good, yeah, I'm good.....
Yes, I completely agree. He is one on my all-time favorites, and SO underrated. So very funky too. Fit Elvis' style perfectly. If you can find his Pickin' CD anywhere - pick it up. He does a lot of amazing guitar playing on that!I also am glad you mentioned some of the great session guitarists that usually don't get any mention, ie.. the great Jerry Reed. all of them
My all time favorite guitar solo (bar none) is Scotty Moore on "Too Much".
