Why is there such an obsession with Elvis?

I don't think the obsession starts right away. I saw a few of his movies and listened to a few of his cassette tapes when I was a young boy. As I began to learn more and more about him, it just lead to more and more of an obsession. I am currently obsessed with finding out new information every day about him. I can't wait to listen to a new CD or see a new video. I can't quite put my finger on why I'm obsessed with Elvis, but most people just call me nuts!

    What makes Elvis special?

For me, I believe Elvis is special because there is no one to compare him to. He is a one of a kind legend. He was unique. He didn't try and "copy" other entertainers......like some people do today. And, how can someone go wrong with a name like Elvis Presley. Just cool, man!

Why is he the most impersonated person?

I think Elvis is the easiest person to impersonate......in terms of dressing up and "looking" the part. If you have a jumpsuit and sideburns, then who doesn't consider you an Elvis lookalike? Not many impersonators have the Elvis "sound" or "voice" but they have the look. And, many people recognize that look which makes it easy for most people to impersonate Elvis. And, who's gonna want to pay money to see a Roy Orbison or a Little Richard impersonator? Not many.

    What makes Graceland special?

I was at Graceland last year, and what impressed me the most was just looking at the mansion from the Music Gates. The mansion sits at the top of a beautiful hilltop and just gives off a special feeling. I enjoyed the tour of Graceland, but just enjoyed sitting across the street and looking up at the mansion from Elvis Presley Blvd. Awesome!

Why is there such an obsession with Elvis?
i think it's because he was such an amazing entertainer and with the most fabulous voice in the world. he was unlike any other singer before him and remains completely unique. he was also such a kind person and really is the king...

    What makes Elvis special?
well for a start he's got a blooming spectacular voice but he also had the most wonderful personality- he was kind, caring, considerate, had a marvelous sense of humour and was a human. oh and also he was absolutely beautiful.

Why is he the most impersonated person?
well... there were the jumpsuits, sideburns, hair and unusual stage performances. he was all round unique

    What makes Graceland special?
because it's where he lived. obvious, but it makes it special.

Why do you think people believe Elvis is still alive?
it's very hard to accept that he's dead. people dream and wish as a way to escape the inevitable and sad truth.

Is there a certain type of people who are Elvis fans?
i dont think so... anyone with good taste i suppose

    Performance/personality/music---------What made Elvis special?
on stage he connected with his fans and you really felt that he believed every word and action he said. he still played pranks and was human. his music seemed to come from his very heart. he was such a generous and kind man.

Do you feel it was his generisity/time for people that made people love Elvis?

i think it has helped people love him even more. he was so kind and generous that you can't help but love him. he was truly special.

How has Elvis affected you personally?
ive become slightly obsessed, he's taken over my life, my room has become an almost temple, my friends are either becoming fans or being driven completely insane, every conversation somehow manages to have something elvis related in and i now officially have no idea about any other music other than elvis!

Why is there such an obsession with Elvis?
Because he was pretty much the first to do everything in the music field, and set the standard to which all other entertainers will be measured. His personal life also draws alot of interest, the way he lived and died.

    What makes Elvis special?
I think my answer to the first question applies here also, minus the personal life.

Why is he the most impersonated person?
Partly because he was so talented and famous and partly because it is easy. From what ive seen, all you need is black hair, some sideburns, and a jumpsuit and your good to go.

    What makes Graceland special?
If you've been there you know. Its where the most famous entertainer ever lived his life, and there is such a awesome feeling that surrounds you when your there.
This is the place where he lived the highs and lows, loved, and passed away.

Why do you think people believe Elvis is still alive?
It all has to do with denial. Elvis symbolized the American dream and the good, simpler times we lived in. When he died some of that went with him. I think everyone realized that there will never be another person like him, and we as fans, dont wont to let any of that go. And even after all he had done, and at the age of 42, he still had so much potential, and that for me, is the hardest thing about his death.

Is there a certain type of people who are Elvis fans?
I dont think so. In death, as in his lifetime, Elvis had and still has many fans from all walks of life.

    Performance/personality/music---------What made Elvis special?
The talent that he had was just insane. No one, and I mean no one, could do the things he could do. Charisma, voice, stage presence, no one can match him.

Do you feel it was his generisity/time for people that made people love
Elvis? I think that more than anything, is the reason Elvis was loved so much. The generosity he showed to everyone, and the time he would give his fans was unheard of then, and still is know. Elvis always seemed like a good ol boy that just hit it big to everyone of his fans.

How has Elvis affected you personally?
Elvis has definitely affected me personally. His music is always there to pick me up when Im feeling down. And I really feel that his belief in God and his gospel music has drawn me closer to God. I wouldnt enjoy gospel music as much as I do if it wasnt for him.

    Re: Some Elvis Questions

Well, I've searched and searched and I can't find the instructions on how you start a new thread. So I guess this is the place to put this question.

Why did Elvis have two best men at his wedding? I have heard that Marty was asked first and Joe was rather annoyed, so Elvis asked him afterwards. What is the other side of the story!?

    Re: Some Elvis Questions

May, I have heard that as well. There may be another side to that story but my impression is that this one does not seem unlikely. Elvis was playing musical foremen around that time...Part of it was simply that the guys would fall in and out of favor but also he liked keeping them on their toes. And from what I know about Joe he would not have liked missing out on that honor so the main thing there is IMO that Elvis did that to keep the peace. I could be wrong though.

BTW, see attachment please and let me or another moderator know about that via PM.
