One of the first times Elvis trew his belt in the audience was during the show in Lubbock, Texas on November 8th, 1972. It was the original belt of the "Blue Nail".
In Aloha he trew his belt and cape in the audience and on June 30th, 1973 in Atlanta he gave away the cape and belt to a ten year old boy. It was the cape and belt from the "Phoenix" which is regarded as the most heavy and expensive of all.
After that he kept to giving away jewelry and an occasionally guitar.
It's not a very large picture but this is the "Phoenix" cape. It was one of the heaviest capes. It's still in private hands.

this cape remind me good souvenirs because I had this cape from Jimmy Velvet` Elvis museum on tour in Canada from a few weeks. Jimmy had the cape from the original owner because the person was very sick and need money to pay the bills. Most of the stuff that belong to Jimmy Velvet was in Las Vegas at the Elvis-o-rama museum that just been closed vy the new ``chief`` of Elvis Presley Enterprises.Originally Posted by Leroy

yes, I heard this from a friend in the states that Mr. Sillerman decide finaly to bring back a lot of things from Velvet`s collection and they close the museum because they gonna have a ``big elvis attraction parc`` in Vegas so now, they will have full control. So, they purchase everything from the museum owner.

How were the capes attached to the suits?
The early capes '71- '72 were attached with velcro under the collar, He would come on stage with the cape and then take it off after a couple songs, then would have charlie put it back on for last 2 or 3 songs and leave wearing it. there is a video on youtube from '71 were it shows video of Elvis with the white nail suit and the pinwheel suit, and he just pulls the capes off with on hand and throws the cape back near charlie. The '73 capes were alot heavier and had velcro and little hook fasteners right on the collar line where most collars attach to the back of a suit of shirt. But Elvis only wore the cape for last song and left wearing it so it wasn't much weight anyway, as most ETA's try wearing a studded cape a whole show and it just hangs the whole back of the neck. Elvis's capes were made with a curve in the top collar to Fit around his neck up to the shoulder seam, most jumpsuit makers don't do this and just make a straight collar and it can't hold any weight.
