What with Sillerman's plans for Graceland and Las Vegas too, and the expanding Elvis Festival in Tupelo combined with all the newspaper interest in all things Elvis,
has our man ever had so much relentless publicity?

Of course not all the stories are welcome but it appears to me whatever the hacks write it makes not the slightest difference.

People want to hear, See, and judge Elvis Presley for themselves. The music always wins

The Daily Mail articles were a disgrace. I was really looking forward to them after the promising article and DVD that was in the weekend paper but the next week I was bitterly disappointed.

Complete lies and slander were given out. I personally would rather Elvis had no publicity than that which was given out by the Daily Mail. I bought the first two and didn't get the rest- it was too upsetting.

Examples of the words used in them:

"A bizarre penchant for baby-talk. An insatiable hunger for under-age girls. And the obsessive bond with his own mother that plagued Elvis Presley's troubled love life..."
- "Every night, he took groupies back to his motel"
- "Poverty forced mother and son to share a bed"
- "The sex act itself did not always interest him"
- "He was romping with Sinatra's lover when Frank knocked on the door...".

"She found his bloated, lifeless body on the floor"
"One theory says he was killed by a karate chop"
"On stage, he simply s******ed and rambled"
"He spied on female guests as they undressed"
"His colon was swollen to siz times normal size"
"Once the epitome of sexual vitality, he was now a virtual zombie"
"He was reading some raunchy hard-core porn".

All of those, apart from the zombie one, were in bold across the pages. The article focused completely on negative sides and lies and took most of its inspiration from... none other than the Goldman book: ""In his shockingly candid ( ) book, Elvis The Last 24 Hours".

I love it when Elvis is in the papers and has publicity. But seriously, when such terrible words are written about him it makes me feel really sad. Non-Elvis fans will read this and think that he was some kind of terrible and grotesque being which is NOT true. Therefore it will be hard for people to judge and see Elvis for themselves. That is so sad. Yeah, he wasn't perfect but after all he was only HUMAN and he had such wonderful qualities... why aren't they mentioned?!?

You're right- Elvis remains a hugely important and iconic figure who has and will constantly appear in the papers. But sometimes it's not for the music, but for the myth. If there's going to be publicity for Elvis I personally want it to be about the beautiful man and his beautiful music.

amzietamzie, I agree. But all this appeared years ago and has been repeated ad nauseum in thousands of newspaper and magazine articles not to mention TV and radio Documentaries.

Many Elvis fans, including me, sent email to the Daily Mail when it appeared in the UK Edition. They are still going ahead and printing it this week in our "Daily Irish Mail".

A nice hard hitting message will hit their inbox letters@dailymail.ie Anyone care to join in..........for Elvis!!! The email readers at least will feel the heat

I am completely in agreement with your comments, The Daily Mail reporter had apparently gone over to America to investigate the truth, as I have comented on this previously, this guy was quite clearly not a fan! he had already made his mind up before going to America, it was a total rehash of the Goldman book all over again. you could understand if there were any credible people referenced e.g. close friends and family but it seems the five days spent researching were done on the beach reading a freshly bought Goldman book and a reference guide on hatchet jobs.

The Daily Mail has a reputation in the UK as one of the high brow papers, they are clearly struggling to increase their circulation and have taken a leaf out of the gutter press to fill their coffers. The unfortunate thing is papers of this calibre tend to be believed and are guilty of reinforcing a negative stereotype which has taken years to dismantle.

Matt, few people would believe the "Daily Mail" these days. Along with all the tabloids it has become a rag.

Sadly our newspapers are taking the same route with a couple of exceptions.

We have a great tool with the PC to inform. Thankfully more and more people are reading far more on the www.
