there have been 2 officially recorded live shows released from these shows. the Elvis as recorded at madison square album, which is a killer performance if you don't have it. but i'm told the 'an afternoon in the garden' cd is much better performance wise, and sound wise. i do however have the killer performances of reconsider baby, and i'll remember u. also the 50s songs, funny how time slips away, and never been to spain from that show on various cds, so from that i can say that its very good.
AN AFTERNOON IN THE GARDEN is definitely the better CD in terms of sound quality, probably just because this show was remastered and mixed to CD in the 1990's when the technology was much improved versus the original LP from 1972! But it is because of the improved sound quality that I generally will grab the AFTERNOON CD when I am in the mood to listen to a show from the MSG engagement!! But despite having a lesser sound quality, I think all fans should have the original MSG LP or CD in their collection strictly for the historical value!!

Now, in terms of the quality of the performances, I also have to give the nod to the afternoon show. Maybe it's the difference in sound quality between the shows, but Elvis just seems a bit more up for the afternoon show....of course, this probably has to do with the fact that he most likely had just woke up before hitting the stage for the afternoon performance, so he had more energy!

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR REPLIES!!!

Sounds like 1972 is a pretty popular year with most Elvis fans, which is VERY cool!!! BURNING LOVE, ELVIS ON TOUR, the MSG shows, Elvis in fine voice throughout the entire year, lots of different songs performed live in concert....what more could a fan ask for? (Besides the ULTIMATE EOT deluxe edition DVD, of course!!)

And now the SUMMER FESTIVAL FTD has just been released, so I am very anxious to listen to this show!!

THANKS EVERYONE for your thoughts on 1972....keep them coming!!!

    TCB!
    Mike

Thank you Mike for your great reply about the Afternoon at the Garden. It's on my list to buy. I think I will ordered today along with the EOT The Rehearsals.

I have so enjoyed all the good and wonderful talk about 1972!

    Thank You,

    Tommy

No problem, I'd have to say the Afternoon CD is the better of the 2 also. I wonder if the other 2 MSG performances will eventually be released officially by RCA(BMG)?

Funny, Tommy, I'm getting ready to order those same two albums!

I do have a question about buying the Afternoon in the Garden CD. All the ones I've found on Ebay have the foreign language writing on the insert, looks like maybe it's chinese or japanese? So my question is, does that make any difference? It's still the same CD isn't it? I know that when I bought my Rhythm and Country CD, it also had the writing on it and it was fine. Anyone know?

I hope so KPM, but I'm not sure if the other 2 shows were even recorded by RCA.

The June 9th show at MSG was released on an import CD a couple of years ago entitled "An Evening At The Madison Square Garden"...unfortunately, the sound quality was even worse than the original LP from 1972!!

Those CD's are probably the Japanese imports that are pretty readily available! Actually, the sound quality on the Japanese CD's are generally better than the U.S. versions! I have a Japanese import CD of the original MSG LP and the sound quality far exceeds the U.S. CD!! So hopefully that is what you are getting, and you will be in for a real treat!!

Thanks for the info, Mike! I will just go ahead and get one of those. I'll let you know how it is! It's quite a bit cheaper on ebay than amazon.

    MY PLEASURE BUDDY!!!

Can't wait to hear what you think of these!! I know you're going to love them both, ESPECIALLY the stripped-down sound of the rehearsals on EOT: THE REHEARSALS!!! And if you've heard the RCA CD of the original MSG LP, then the difference in sound quality between the original MSG show and the AFTERNOON IN THE GARDEN CD will blow you away!!!

    ENJOY!!!

    THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION RICHARDO316!!!

I thought I had read that somewhere too, but I wasn't 100% sure!! I have heard the import CD of the MSG show on June 9th, but the sound quality is quite poor unfortunately!!

    THANKS AGAIN!!!

Whether you might imagine Elvis singing that to you, or you relate to the perspective of the person conveying the message of the song, one way or another it almost has to resonate within.

The four words as sung by Elvis, "Can I hold you"...I don't have the words to do the delivery of that line justice, but I will say that if they don't strike a chord with you, then you were obviously born without a soul.

For me the part that makes me feel the chills coming up from my spine are when he sings almost at the end: I will sell my very soul and not regret it... he just do something with his voice, dont have the words, he is simply gonne, totally lost into the song.

Long time havent heard this song, you make me play it more than a couple of times in a long long while....

    Have a good one!
