    Tommy,

You're very welcome. I hope you can make the trip to Graceland around Christmastime someday.
...you won't forget me when I go.

I went in December of 1999, and it was for sure one of the most amazing trips there for me. Liking Elvis and the Christmas season like I do, it was just a magical time to be there. Seeing the way Elvis had the place decorated plus having all the new light displays, which are very much in keeping with Elvis' tastes, if you ask me, is just so cool.

Now, I haven't been around Elvis' birthday, but to me seeing all those decorations a couple weeks after Christmas would be a little depressing.

The neat thing about going during the Christmas season is that (and I assume you can still do this) with your mansion tour ticket stub, you are allowed to go back into the house in the evening to go through at your own pace! That takes care of going through twice without having to pay for two tickets, and doing it with and without the headphones. Plus, you hear Elvis' Christmas songs playing throughout the house, which is so cool.

Even if you're not a big Christmas person, Elvis being into it like he was makes this experience extra special...perhaps his presence is felt even more than usual.

It's great to mingle with all the the fellow fans during Elvis Week, but if you want to feel less like you're being shuffled through the house at EPE's pace, I recommend going during this very festive but far less crowded time of year. In addition to my own family, my parents and one of my sisters and aunt and uncle and cousins also went on this trip. Most of them are not necessarily Elvis fans, but they all really enjoyed it.

Another plus is you don't have to endure the Memphis summer heat!

    O come, all E faithful!
    EXCELLENT POINT BUDDY!!!

Despite my extreme dislike for winter , I would love to see Graceland all decked out in lights!! I've seen pictures of the new Osborne Jennings light display that was added to the original decorations that Elvis had, and you are absolutely right....they are definitely in keeping with what Elvis would have done!!!

Now that you mention the thing about being able to go back through Graceland in the evening with your tour ticket stub, that is a definite bonus!!! I had forgotten all about that little "bonus" of going around the holidays!

But would you say that I am right in suggesting to other fans that have never been to Graceland to really try to take the tour twice...once with, and once without the headphone tour??

Thanks for the holiday information pal!!!

    TCB!
    Mike

No words can describe the feelings you feel when you visit the Mansion of your Idol, especially when your Idol is the one and only 'King of Rock 'n' Roll'. From your first steps inside the hallway to the tranquil beauty of the walk to the Meditation Gardens, it's an emotional rollercoaster ride that will have your mind conjuring up images of THE Man living there between 1957 and 1977 - it's your choice, pick a year...any year...he's always there.

    Beautiful.

NEA...Hi there mate, can you help me, iam putting together a 3 volume set of E's greates hits (as I see them) and one thing i have always asked but so far nobody has been able to tell me is, what are the musical notes on the Graceland gates, what song are they from, i have a feeling that they maybe the opening bars to Jailhouse Rock, the reason i say this is because this is when E had the gates installed, maybe iam wrong and they maybe to some other 50's song, do you know or is there anyone on the site who does know...If you can help would be internally grateful...Yours Redroo

A MUST DO for any harcore fan ..... !!

    Hey Guys,

The best time to visit Graceland was when it first opened to the public back in the early 80's.

None of the stuff was behind glass & you could touch his items and even go up and get photographed sitting in some of E's cars.

If you were really lucky, ......... you might've happened across EP's Aunt Delta ......... she would either let you sniff the whiskey in her coffee cup, curse at you, or ........... sic Elvis' favorite pomeranian dog "Edmond" on you. A true taste of what E himself must of felt like @ "Home Sweet Home."

Then there's also the lady who found a toe-nail in The Jungle Room carpet, ................... unfortunately, it later turned out to be Lamar Fike's replete with onychomycosis.

    Thank you for the replies,

I know you and I cant use flash photography at Graceland but watch this movie and count how many times the flashes go off. I dont like double standards and if flash is bad for the artifacts then it should'nt be used at all even by the President. I'm sure this is more of Priscilla's money hungry publicity seeking.

Yes, you will cry, I know I did. Everybody does the first time. But it really would be a shame if you didn't go up to Elvis's grave.
I always feel his presence inside the house but when I walk up to his grave I just get calm and sit there and meditate a little.
When I leave I lay my hand on his grave and wispher a litlle message to him. Somehow I feel that he knows I'm there.
So Girlhappy, if you go Graceland, please do visit his grave. Don't be ashamed or afraid when you cry, my bet is you won't be the only one. Just let your feelings go free and you wil feel a lot better afterwards.

    Yvonne.
