GLAD TO HEAR YOU ARE ENJOYING THE CD PAL!!

Hearing these songs without the orchestra is AWESOME!!! Elvis' voice is FANTASTIC and the TCB Band is ROCKIN' for sure!!

That version of JOHNNY B. GOODE is OUTSTANDING and the rehearsal of ALWAYS ON MY MIND is my favorite version of that song...I LOVE Ronnie Tutt's drumming on that one!!!

Now that you have AFTERNOON IN THE GARDEN and this CD, you need to consider picking up SUMMER FESTIVAL and trying to get a copy of Disc 4 of the CLOSE UP box set!!! Then you'll REALLY be rockin' with Elvis in '72!!!

    TCB!

Tommy, this release by FTD is for me the second best disc they have put out(number 1 is the jungleroom sessions), even see see rider without the horns is kickin' ***. Some people say that the orchestra was a overkill on the presley music, but if you listen to see see rider with the horns..the horns bringing so much pace in the song, it almost hunts you. But can also agree that on some songs the orchestra was a bit too much.
But to get back to the subject, i played this cd for a good friend of mine, who is playing in a nice blues band, he wasn't that impressed with the sound the band made in these recordings, he said; for a rehearsal the playing ok, not great. He heard some mistakes by some of the members of the tcb-band. I said: come on man, it's a rehearsal, the are allowed to make some small mistakes. He also made clear that a lot of Elvis live cd's have that (old) 70's mixing, when james burton comes in for his solo, the volume is put up to bring his guitar in front, same goes for all the other parts. In these days you won't hear that, they are all mixed at the same level.
There we had a little discussion, cause i like this way of mixing, in today's music all the instruments and singers are at the same (very loud) level. The reason for that is that all the vocals are recorded seperate from the backing music. In my opinion this causes a lost of a real feeling, sounds almost fake. The only artists of today who record there music the old style is Jamie cullum (who recorded his best seller album twentysomething) in the old style: with his band in the studio, like Elvis did back in the days. And it shows on the recordings, it has much more feeling, emotion ect. Wish the big artists of today recorded their work this way..
So we had a long discussion about this way of recording, but at the end of this discussion he agreed with me (after playing some cd's) that the older way of recording sounded so much better. So i gave him a copy of these on tour outtakes, so he can listen to the best band from the 70's: The TCB band, and the best singer of all time: Elvis Presley. But that he knew, cause he was a Elvis fan allready, no wonder that he became a good friend of mine..

    That's right Mike,
These cd's give you a complete "live" feeling of 72...
To me too the rehearsals are one of the best FTD...(Young and beautiful -Separate ways are my fav of this one)
The sound of close up 4 is just that brilliant and the garden is top of speed)
think everyone must have a chance to have this in the collection...

Keep watching eBay Tommy...maybe you'll get lucky like Menwithbrokenhearts and pick up a copy of the box set for a reasonable price!!

It's just too bad that you have to buy the whole box set just for Disc 4....not that the rest of the box set is bad, but Discs 1-3 certainly pale in comparison to Disc 4!!! (At least in my opinion!)

Perhaps someone could make you a copy of Disc 4, to save you having to buy the whole set! But make sure you STAY AWAY from picking up a copy of the import CD for the San Antonio show...the sound quality is horrible!!

    GOOD LUCK BUDDY!!!
