Why 50, 000, 000?

The majority of us are all familiar with Elvis' 'Gold Records' series of albums especially that classic, and much-copied, cover from Volume 2 of the series. But, who came up with idea of giving this volume the extended title of '50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong'? Is this the amount of records Elvis had sold for RCA by 1959/60?

Any info guys?

The title is great and have become a very famous line.... I guess that it's the amount of singles, EP's and albums sold up to 1959?

It's a shame that RCA didn't bother to continue this extended title theme throughout the whole 'Gold Records' series. For example, "xx, 000, 000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong - Elvis' Gold Records Volume 3" (1963) etc.

I think this would have been a fascinating theme that could have continued with "Gold Records Vol. 4" (1968) and "Gold Records Vol. 5" (1985).

Infact it's a great shame that the theme didn't start with the first volume in 1957.

Well, to tell you the truth, I never really gave it any thought. It was just an experiment to try how it would look. The design was more important than the numbers.

What graphics software do you use to create such treasures? And, is it PC or MAC based?

The design you saw was made with Microsoft Picture It 2000. It's a very user's friendly program but also very basic. I still use it today to touch up pictures. For the more advanced work I use Ulead PhotoImpact which allows me to create things. My main program is Windows XP Professional.

Someone wanted to know about the "1959 RCA album 50,000,000 Fans Can't Be Wrong (Elvis Gold Records, Vol. 2). What was the 50,000,000 used for?

I have read that the 50,000,000 was for either the number of viewers for the Ed Sullivan Show or to the 50,000,000 records sold.
