bizarre Qestion and a bit Late

I got to thinking about Live 8 the concert that was on a few weeks ago and thought, would Elvis have performed on this venue?

I know Elvis would have been 70 this year! any thoughts? would he have done the original Live Aid back in 1985?

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The original Live Aid would be more logical. I remember missing him badly then. Could you imagine The King and Queen on one day? Or participating on the "We Are The World" song together with The Boss? On the other hand; he was there! I'm sure.......

Agreed, Elvis would have been 50, when you look at Paul McCartney, he was 63 at the show in 2005 and still able to give a great performance.

But Sinatra was a crooner. From Elvis, as history already showed, was something else expected. Can you imagine him singing "Teddy Bear" at 70?

Besides that the main ingredient on Live8 was rap. I'm affraid Elvis would not have fit in. Unless he would have chosen a song where he could be accompanied by Brian Adams on accoustic guitar.

No rather not and I dont think he wanted to sing that either ( I believe he lost interest him self allready in the 70's), but I dont think he would have stuck only to the old stuff, I like to think that he would have made big changes again like he did in 68-69. But we never know.

I tend to think the In the USA they look after their stars and have a respect that somehow does not transfer over to the United kingdom the same, i don't know if that is the same in your respective countries? there are those who played at Live 8 who passed the teen era (Rap etc) and played well e.g. Pink Floyd, The Who & Elton John to name but a few. There is definately a place for the older generation!

I agree too but the members of the groups you mentioned are not 70 years old yet. Besides that it's much easier for a group than for a solo artist. On the other hand I have to admit that Elvis is getting a lot of respect from fellow musicians even from the ones you would not expect. And maybe a song like "If I can Dream" (which is still an update song, unfortunatly) would have been a good closing song again. It could have been a dream come true for Sir Paul; finally on stage with Elvis....... They even could have tried a version of "Yesterday" and "Hey Jude". I must say the longer you think about it the more possibillities come up.

    Talking

Imagine it being 1985 and Elvis being on stage doin a duet with Freddie Mercury
    how amazing would it be...?
I would be like a dream to me personally because Elvisand Freddie are my idols.

There is no doubt in my mind that Elvis would take a part in live aid/ Live 8 if he were still alive after all he was just such a kind charitable man who loved giving and making others feel happy...Thats one of the things that make Elvis so special and why I love him so much in my heart

Elvis grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference

I'm a Beach Boys fan also and looking at these bands during their prime, it seems impossible them doing "Surfin' USA', 'Californian Girls' and 'I Get Around' at age 64.

But if you see them (Mike Love, Bruce Johnston or All jardin) they still give a hell of a show and really don't look silly or weird.

The hardest thing for Elvis would be loosing his jumpsuit. A thing that would have happened anyway when the 70s would go into the 80s. Imagine Elvis performing wearing anything else than a two, or one-piece jumpsuit....

I'm afraid that as soon as Elvis would shake his hips people would call it a parody of his 60's style. People famous for theire moves are always forced to keep on doing so, despite the fun that other people make of it (Elvis, Jackson, Jagger, etc.). It's almost a lose-lose situation.

But I strongly believe that Elvis would have switched to singing mainly gospels/ballads very soon after 1977.

There is only one thing I have to correct you on, Albert. A two-piece jumpsuit doesn't exist. A jumpsuit is always one-piece, that's why it's called a jumpsuit.

But like I said, for a group it's different especially if it's a group that just standing there and playing their songs, like the Beach Boys or one of my favourites the Eagles. But for a performer like Elvis or Freddie Mercury it's something else. They are always remembered for their dynamic stage precense. If they don't move people are dissappointed and will say: "He's getting old and finished." And if they do move they will be just a parody of their former selves, just as you already stated. It's a lose/lose situation.

Paul McCartney, Elton John and Tom Jones are all solo artists! Tom Jones is more the style of Elvis than the other two and I have to say when I do see Tom Jones on the odd occaision on T.V. I have to admire the way he performs, he has move away from the Jigging and concentrates on the voice.

For me Elvis would indeed have moved away from the rock 'n' roll and moved more to the gospel and ballads, this was a strength in the later 70's anyway.

As for the clothes he would have worn, I think he would have moved to suits (a bit like Tom Jones) I'm sure there would have been a way to make any clothes her wore into a personal thing without it looking tacky.

Considering Live Aid and Live 8 were for charity, I can see Elvis being the first performer to sign up....

    ASSUMING....

....that Elvis had dumped The Colonel as his manager by the time of Live Aid! Sadly, if Elvis and The Colonel had still been together at the time of Live Aid, I can clearly see The Colonel presenting the producers of Live Aid with a bill for Elvis' services upfront!!!

    TCB!
