    'Plantation Rock'

    Hi Guys,

Anybody a fan of this deleted/cut song from 1962's "Girls!Girls!Girls!"? I think it is quite a pleasant and chirpy addition to the soundtrack - far better than "Earth Boy", "Song Of The Shrimp" & "The Walls Have Ears".

It doesn't appear to be available on any of the CDs that are currently in the Sony/BMG catalogue.

It was circulating on a number of 'bootlegs' for a period of time before getting it's official release as part of the "Legendary Performer" Vol. 4 set from 1983. I think it was also released on the soundtrack of "Girls!Girls!Girls!" on the 'Double Features' CD series years later.

So, has it only appeared on just the two official album releases then? And, what unofficial releases did it appear on?

Not a fan of it at all - I think if you put "rock" in the title and lyrics, the music should... you know... rock. At least a little bit. With different lyrics I would probably enjoy it. Say what you will about the other songs you mentioned, the music in those matches the title and lyrics, and I consider them far better songs for that reason alone.

Sorry I don't know about releases, but I do have a question of my own... what sort of scene was supposed to go with that song? Was it in an early script only, or was a scene perhaps even shot but cut, like happened with "I Don't Want To" and "Where Do You Come From?".

    'Plantation' Scene?!

    Hi Kapu,

I'm not too sure in what way 'Plantation Rock' was deleted or cut, so I don't know if an actual scene exists for it - might have just been leftover from the soundtrack.

I'm very much aware that in the trailer of "Girls!Girls!Girls!" Elvis can be seen singing 'I Don't Want To' so a scene does exist for this number. Is there a scene that exists that shows Elvis singing 'Where Do You Come From'?

    NEA,

According to a poster at the alt.elvis.king newsgroup the deleted "Where Do You Come From" scene was shown from a 16mm B&W print of "Girls! Girls! Girls!" at a UK Elvis festival in the 80's. So that scene could still exist in a vault somewhere.

I'm pretty sure that scene would've been in front of the old church right after Ross questions Laurel about where she comes from and she says "You could rest, maybe sing with the choir?". The cut after that line is a bit awkward.

As for "Plantation Rock", it seems like a strange choice of song for this film that doesn't feature a plantation of any kind. It would fit into "Blue Hawaii" just fine though!

I agree with Kapu....while PLANTATION ROCK is a catchy little tune, in my opinion, there really is no place in GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS! that it would have fit well, so I guess it is just as well that it was deleted from the film.

It's not a great song by any means. Typical soundtrack "filler". But I enjoy it nonetheless. Kinda catchy.

But it sounds so much more like a song that would have been used for this (or another tropical) movie. Weird...

But perhaps it's the same as with "You're The Boss": it had been recorded to be used during the movie, but cancelled while shooting the movie.

Albert: Yes, I admit I can't imagine where "Plantation Rock" would have fit in the finished print. But, perhaps there was a scene filmed that contained this song and it was edited from the final print. We'll probably never know.

    Where To Find Plantation Rock

Plantation Rock can be found on the "Double Feature" CD that RCA/BMG released years ago for Kid Galahad/Girls, Girls, Girls. This is currently out of print, but can be purchased used from Amazon or Ebay.
