    Rhythm & Country

Short introduction: Definately one of the better volumes in the Essential Series. This one gives us Elvis at work in the Stax Studios in 1973. It features great versions of f.i. I Got A Feelin' In My Body, You Asked Me To and Promised Land.

    Tracklist:

    02. Loving Arms (take 2)
    03. I've Got A Thing About You Baby (take 14)
    04. She Wears My Ring (take 8)
    05. You Asked Me To (take 2)
    06. There's A Honky Tonk Angel (take 1)
    07. Goodtime Charlie's Got The Blues (take 8)
    08. Find Out What's Happening (take 6)
    09. For Ol' Times Sake (take 3)
    10. If You Don't Come Back (take 3)
    11. Promised Land (take 4)
    12. Thinking About You (take 4)
    13. Three Corn Patches (take 14)
    14. Girl Of Mine (take 9)
    15. Your Love's Been A Long Time Coming (take 4)
    16. Spanish Eyes (take 2)
    17. Talk About The Good Times (take 3)
    18. If That Isn't Love (take 1)

    Recorded: July 21-24 & December 10-16, 1973

I just saw an interview of Ernst, that the remainder of the stax sessions will be released as part of the classic albums by FTD, 3 albums. That's the albums: good times, raised on rock and promised land. Promising news!!!

I love this cd. I wish they would have left Burton's wah work on "You Asked Me To" up in the mix on the final "Promised Land" version.

New more innovative artwork needed !

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elvis fans have said it for years : More of those studio sessions with outtakes and talking in between songs should be released a s a p!!! before we loose our good hearing...Could think of Guitar Man, US Male sessions, next to BLove and PromLand ones !!! Also, new more innovative and creative artwork is needed for FTD releases, covers, inside coloured photos please (no more B/W pix, and for movie digipacks full coloured booklets...no junk). BMG can afford it...especially for the 75 dollars they ask for those B/W pictures in the LA Forum release...are you kiddin' ? They seem to be rippin' off fans...Instead, they should pay a decent price for top quality photos of Keith, Bonja and Bob Heis, and not the least to Sean Shaver, Judy Palmer a.o. who were always sitting in the front rows and sometimes closer than anyone to Elvis What is wrong with Sony's decision makers ? The ain't elvis fans that's for sure: And if Jack has something to do with it, he is cheap and subscribes to the (late) Vernon's mentality of being a lousy spender, despite the millions that roll in every day. How about releasing also the remaining unreleased session outtakes of For Asking and 60s hits ???67, 68 and 69???

Sometimes, I can not help but think that BMG/SONNY is not doing justice in handling Elvis materials. They seems to be focussed in one area of their business, huge revenues and care less on how they dole out those Elvis materials. Try to examine the art works on most of the ELVIS materials and how they handle the promotion and you will agree that Elvis deserves more considering that he is the all time best selling solo recording artist of the century. I hope we Elvis fans gets what we really deserved, QUALITY ELVIS MATERIALS for a change in the future.

Great outtake album of the "pre-FTD-era"! The choice of alternate takes is good, only that a few more false starts could have been included - but since it was an RCA/BMG release you have to consider the global market demands.

I like the artwork (of the whole ESSENTIAL series) because I think it's creative, fits the content and is not one of those using a live photograph (mostly from ALOHA) for a studio album.

Almost can't imagine this series will be continued in order to leave further outtakes for release on FTD.

I agree on the demand for more "studio talk".

this is a great and important album for elvis because it came out almost the same time that he received his star at the Country Music Hall Of Fame.

I love it. In my eyes this one is a must have.
Even if you don't like every song or version on it, here you can hear how Elvis recorded his songs back in the 70s.
