Love Song of the Year is beautifully sung, but to me it's a kind of strange song lyrically.
Well, then I must acknowledge that Mr. Songman is too. Is it just me or is there a lyrical goof in it from Elvis? I believe the first time he delivers this line, it's:
"Won't you sing me away to a summer night? Let me hold you in my arms again." And he's singing to a jukebox, right? Why does he want to hold the jukebox...or anything he would call 'Mr.'?
The second time he corrects it, singing:
"Won't you sing me away to a summer night? Let me hold her in my arms again." Or am I missing something?
Anyway, my vote goes to Mr. Songman. I wish the song was longer, and it does have that flaw (if I'm right about that), but still I have always liked it a whole lot. The delivery is perfect, or the way Elvis emotes it. He could make just about any song great that way. I love the sound of this song as heard on Stax Trax.
