LETS BE FRIENDS!
My vote goes for NEVER ENDING.
Destination deals the cards we're just playing.
I like both songs very much, but something blue is my choise, because I often feel blue.
Be safe and take care,

It's Midnight.
There are indeed many great live versions of this song. I don't think any I've heard are better than the one found on the FTD named for that standout performance.
...you won't forget me when I go.
I can see that most of you preferred the choice of 70's ballad there, however both songs were great and i thought it was quite a difficult choice to make, but 'its midnight' won it in the end, this time how about a couple of 70's rockers, 'promised land' v 't.r.o.u.b.l.e., I cant decide between them so I'll settle for a draw on them, let me know what you think, rickster.
ooh now this IS a HARD one, 2 AWESOME Elvis rockers, both never fully appreciated by the public. Promised Land is one of the best Chuck Berry covers he did, and it just rocks, especially the guitar work from the great James Burton. but my vote goes to T-R-O-U-B-L-E, i heard this on the radio yesterday and i turned it up for full pleasure, and the vocal work is terific. awesome lyrics(like promised land), but the vocal work like when Elvis growls 'choo choo cha chagga!' is just awesome! the live versions are great also
winner for me: T-R-O-U-B-L-E (HEY HEY! indeed)
BTW, Geordie. thank you, and i hope you are ok from these London bombings, my prayers to you and your country

My winner is PROMISED LAND!
Destination deals the cards we're just playing.
Once again we have another difficult choice in this battle of the 70's Rockers. I love 'Promised land' for the verse:
"Swing low chariot, come down easy
Taxi to the Terminal Zone,
Cut your engines and cool your wings,
And let me make it to the telephone."
Plus, James Burton is in finely-tuned form throughout.
But, I think my vote will have to go to the charismatic and catchy
'T-R-O-U-B-L-E'. I love the lyrics to this song and Elvis delivers with such great passion. This is one of the highlights from 1975's 'Today' album. I love the line:
"Looking like glory and walking like a dream!"
Cheers,
NEA.

Well, it's kind of off-topic Michu....personally, I don't think Elvis was ugly - granted some pics look better than others....
Nevertheless, Michu - which song are you voting for?
NEA.
I have already voted!Above!Originally Posted by NEA

No, it seems I'm annoying you...we're entertaining the others....lol
Take Care.
Michu, you really think Elvis looks bad in that photo? I think it's a very flattering picture. Though he's a little thick in the body at that time (for the last time wearing a jumpsuit other than the Sundial), his face doesn't show any puffiness in this shot. And it's amazing to me that the Omaha show, in which he looked very puffy and bloated, was the very next night.
By the way I did enhance the pic a little, but that was mainly to brighten it up, make his eyes more visible, and smooth out the graininess of the photo. See comparison below.
Back to the game...
Promised Land wins that last one for me, but not by far. Regarding T-R-O-U-B-L-E, I think the first take as heard on 6363 Sunset is absolutely killer, way better than the master, though including a couple minor vocal miscues.
I think that the original studio mixes which we're going to hear on the Today FTD--anyone have this yet?--are going to be revelatory. I just betcha.
Speaking of the Today album, let me offer a 4 for 1.
1 - Fairytale v. I Can Help
2 - And I Love You So v. Pieces of My Life
3 - Susan When She Tried v. Shake A Hand
4 - Green, Green Grass of Home v. Bringin' It Back
...you won't forget me when I go.
