    DIARY OF A SEPARATION preview

I have always thought that, gathering all the 1971-1972 "separation" material, you could get a nice concept album. Here is a preview that includes also the track list. If you know any other songs that could fit there (but only from the 1971-1972 era), please tell me.

    Hi Jeanno,

You've prepared a fine tracklist/themed compilation there my friend. I got an idea there might have been a recent cover that may have inspired your design for this one a little ? but at the same time your concept is very different.

As far as further suggestions for the tracklist, well, I guess you know all the session material from 1971 and 1972 as well as I do

However, maybe you can find room to include 'Until It's Time For You To Go' ? (you have the master, the remake version and an alternate take 5 to choose from there)

I did also wonder about 'Love Me Love The Life I Lead', but I don't think that would necessarily fit the mood you have created on this collection would it ?

A beautiful song only performed live that maybe I'd consider would be 'It's Impossible', though again, perhaps not quite in keeping with the theme of your choices ?

Lastly, I have to say, if you moved the goalposts a little further to encompass the 1973 material, the track 'For Ol' Times Sake' would be an obvious choice.

Let me know what you think about those suggestions.

    By the way, Jeanno,

Please do elaborate on which takes, versions you eventually choose for the final tracklist.

One last thing, have you considered using some kinda wood grain effect for the cover backgrounds, maybe as if the diary and photos are displayed on a table top ?

First of all, Thanks to you all for the comments and advices!

Thanks! Really happy you like it!

Always nice to hear comments from you! "Love Me, Love The Life I Lead" and "It?s Impossible", as you said, don?t fit well here as they are not about separation. On the other hand, "Until It?s Time For You To Go" is a great choice (I specially like the undubbed outtake from "A Hundred Years From Now") and I think I?m going to add it in the track list. "For Ol? Times Sake" is not used here because I?m working on a STAX pack coming next...

have you considered using some kinda wood grain effect for the cover backgrounds, maybe as if the diary and photos are displayed on a table top ?
Another great idea! I?ll do it! I just like the "office-table" idea!

Here is the detailed final track list :
1- SEPARATE WAYS (master take from march 1972 - WAMIMS)
2- FOR THE GOOD TIMES (master take from march 1972 - WAMIMS)
3- IT?S OVER (recorded live in Vegas, february 1972 - WAMIMS)
4- I?M LEAVIN? (master take from may 1971 - WAMIMS)
5- SOUND OF YOUR CRY (outtake from june 1970 - MARATHON)
6- IT?S A MATTER OF TIME (master take from march 1972 - WAMIMS)

7- I?VE LOST YOU (recorded live in Vegas, august 1970 - TTWII)
8- YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN (recorded live in Vegas, february 1972 - WAMIMS)
9- FOOL (master take from march 1972 - FOOL ALBUM)
10- ALWAYS ON MY MIND (rehearsal from march 1972 - TGP)
11- UNTIL IT?S TIME FOR YOU TO GO (outtake from may 1971 - AHYFN)
12- IT?S STILL HERE (master take from june 1971 - WAMIMS)

    BONUS
13- I?M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY ("Aloha" version, january 1973)
"Until we meet again, God bless you and Adios."

This is one of those covers you have to see when it's finished...
i can't make up my mind if i like it or not based on the preview, the concept i do like allready.
It could be easy an real 1972 album, so i love to see the final product, jeanno!
You made so many stax related covers allready...so i wonder what you come up with with your new stax release....

The next release, ELVIS AT STAX, will be a double album with :
    - 1 CD dedicated to the Soul / Rock tracks
    - 1 CD dedicated to the C & W tracks
It will be presented in a double LP 33rpm a-like sleeve.

At the same time, I?d like to launch the new ELVIS AT STAX WEBSITE...

On reevaluation of your tracklist, Jeanno, I'm not really sure that 'It's A Matter Of Tiime' fits in with the mood you have created with the rest of the compilation.

In my opinion it stands out as rather more upbeat than the rest of your selections; additionally, I find it quite an abrubt transition the way in which it directly follows 'The Sound Of Your Cry'.

For me, part of the interest in creating compilations is in trying to create a seamless flow from track to track, so do let me know if you find my comment has any merrit.

    Cheers.

Its not a bad idea but remember Elvis did not mind about that divorce--in my opinion, of course. He did not care about her.

I guess it did much more to him than we think. Maybe he was glad in some ways to get rid of her, but it did hurt his ego enormously. He did not actually behave as a married man but it was a real blow to him.

    Nice cover by the way.

Hi! In my humble opinion two tracks dont fit here.I mean: MATTER OF TIME and SOUND OF YOUR CRY. If we talk about pain after loosing someone you love, these two tracks have nothing to do with it.
