    Steamrollin' Charlotte

It's been a while since I put a cd cover design together, so I've decided to take the plunge again! This time I did a remake of the audience recorded cd "Steamrollin' Charlotte".

One thing I'd like to know - Who in the heck styled his hair this day?

The covers are attached for download. I hope you all enjoy them.

Thanks for the feedback Ron - much appreciated.

I see what you mean regarding the photo used on the back cover. I'll give it a looksie and try adjusting that color level a tiny bit.

I'll be honest, I have never been a fan of that orange "pumpkin" guitar or the manner in which he styled his hair for this show! He looks very "oriental" imo here. Nevertheless, the concert itself is a good one, so I chose to put the music first over his appearance here
    Again, I appreciate the comments.

    FANTASTIC DESIGN BIG BOSS!!!

Simple, yet tastefully done! I like the inside artwork with the alternating letters and photos....very unique idea!!

I agree with you 100% on Elvis' hairstyle in those photos....in my opinion, the way his hair is styled really draws attention to the fact that he looks a little heavier and more pale than usual...or is it just me??

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK STEVE!!!

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the kind remarks.

I'm glad you liked the picture and letter thing I came up with. I was initially going to put 4 small photos on each page, but when I did that each page looked a bit too "crowded", so then I went to 3 photos in a triangle format. I got to think afterwards, "I believe this concept has been used a cover before?" Just cannot remember the title?

Anyhow, thanks for the support, I truly appreciate it and will try to make an even better one next time.

This is a big bossy design, I like very much.

The flipside of the frontcover with the pix interspersed between the Jungleroom76-sized letters is the highlight imho, but the rest is great, too.

    Thumbs up.

Mike, I never realized the lettering I used.....if you've copyrighted that style just send the bill to Rene c/o the TCB World photo gallery. I'm sure he'll be happy to pay for any of my usage of your lettering.

Actually Steve....Manhattoe was the one who "trademarked" my font size and style because I guess I use it quite frequently...

Although I really don't know why Manhattoe thinks that!?!?

Great job on the cover, Boss Man! You are really good at what you do!
By the way, I have to agree with your comment about the hair!

I just love your letters, Mike, because they are the only letters an old man like me can read without the help of glasses.

And I also love the Empire State and the big buildings there, which have inspired me once and which seem to inspire you know.

    Never mind.

The guitar was not that great, neither the hairstyle... but, nevertheless, you did a great job despite all of that. Creating something cool with that kind of material is the best way to show you?re a great designer.

Nothing much to add to what's already been said, Steve, good solid 'old school' design which would look right at home on the CD shelf. The way you picked out the orange and used it sparingly adds that little extra lift to the overall design.

at the 'orange pumpkin guitar' comment, is that the technical name for it.

'What, honey ? ..... one scarf for the balcony ?! ........... OK ........... gimme a baseball ! ............ there's no way unless you put a rock in it'.

Thank you all for the comments, I truly appreciate them.

Mark, the "pumpkin" guitar is one of the ugliest looking pieces IMO. In my view, he just appeared better with a black guitar for some reason (except for the 69-70 period).

One thing I did learn from putting this one together is the importance to try and use large-sized / higher resolution photos (if you have them). Fortunately I did for this particular show, and based on the feedback I've gotten I see that to be true.

Thank you all again....I hope you'll all enjoy using this one.

    Very true, BB.

One thing I don't link is to boost low resolution pix (it always shows, no matter how careful you do it), the other is to create flipsides of front covers, in particular when I have to do it with low res pix.

It is so much more rewarding to have high res pix at hand, and the work makes much more fun.

I do think a ?bad? quality picture many times makes someone about 10 times more creative then when working with high quality scans. Just look at the original FTD designs, they got good quality pictures, probably sometimes also real negatives but still got a lack of creativity.
    I totally agree with you.
