Ok, here's the idea... if Elvis had lived through the 80's, 90's and so on, what style or genre do you think he would have leaned more towards in music? Say... country, pop, or gospel?
I personally think that he would have focused more on country music, mainly because his sound in the late 70's was going more of that direction, and he loved country! Also, the style of country music in the 80's and 90's has a closer connection to his music in the 60's and 70's.
So, your turn.....
i believe he would have done a mix of all like he usually did in his time. his rock might've changed to the direction of the track 'theres a fire down below' that he never recorded. it has a modern, moody feel and i think his rocknroll and rhythm and blues would've taken this course. he would've still done country, and also an occasional gospel album. he never would've tried any of that modern crap

It's really hard to say. I like to think that he would have made a comeback kind of like Roy Orbison did. It would have been cool to hear him do a record produced by Jeff Lynne or Bono. With Elvis there were no limits.

I think that Elvis would focus more and more on ballads and gospels.

I think Elvis would've kept to his way of doing things, trying to find his own way in the music world of today...
But I also think he never would've tried the "no-music-whatsoever-boom-boom-show-tits-and-***-and-tattoos" stuff they bother us with today!
He'd probably would've leaned towards the Shania Twain type thing, you know...

A good friend of mine told me this about few years ago about Elvis.he had a chance to talk with jd sumner years ago and and hear what jd said about Elvis.
Elvis talk with jd and said to him that when his contrack is up with rca Elvis was thinking on doing full time gospel singer, on tour and albums.
because this what Elvis loves anyway to become a full time gospel singer.
if this is true what jd said would you still be buying Elvis gospel records.
and see him on stage just doing gospel music.

Hello, thought i'd share what i know about this subject.
It is true that Elvis very much wanted to do Gospel music full time.
I have had an opportunity to also talk with JD, very great person. Upon many occasions i've heard him tell fans that Elvis felt he should be using his talent in the Gospel music field full time. He felt this was what God had put him on earth to do. However he did not feel his fan base would accept that change and feared making any changes. Also his circle of friends and Tom Parker were not supporting in this matter. Elvis' whole life seems to be about everyone else profiting from him. If it does not profit them they do not support his true desires. It's very sad. This appears to be something that tormented him his entire carreer. He had actually talked to Rex Humbard, a very popular evangelist of the time, about his dilema. Apparently the story goes that Mr Humbard told him he should keep doing what he's doing, singing God's praise during his concerts, because he was reaching people that would other wise not be reached out to. He managed to console him alittle bit. I do believe that some people in Elvis' life would of liked to have seen him go down this road, JD is one of them. However positive influent people, like JD, were not around enough to help lift Elvis up and out of his current slump. Elvis was so child like and really didn't seem to have the confidence or independence to go against everyone in his circle, including his father. Imgine if Elvis had taken the bull by the horns and truly ran the show? Do you think Parker would of left him? His father moved out of Graceland and disowned him? Are you kidding! Elvis didn't realise how much control and influence he really had being Elvis Presley.
I believe, Elvis felt he was letting God down some how. This was a deep sadness that was inside of him. If you watch the later concerts, you can see it. He looks so tired and just bored. He goes out and sings as if he's done it all a hundred times. Then he'll brighten up when it's time to How Great Tho Art. Do an amazing job and almost kill himself trying to do it, due to his current condition. Then turn around and do Hound Dog. Elvis loved to be on stage and i feel he loved his fans, but he was bored and wasn't truly doing what he wanted to do.
Anyway, this is my view on that subject.

I don't think I would prefer for Elvis to have restricted himself to any one genre, and I don't think he himself would have done that, regardless of his having indicated a desire to do so on a couple of occasions. He had too many musical interests to have done that.
However, if he had gone down the road of singing all gospel, I can't say that I would not have enjoyed it. He really bared his soul on his gospel recordings; it was some of his most impassioned singing for sure.

I do believe that had he gone down the Gospel road it would not of been totally traditional. It would of been rock'n. He would of lead the way for what is now the Contemporary Christian Rock circuit now. You turn on that music now and other then the lyrics, it's not much different then the main stream music! I hear it, and i feel he would of dug it big time!

just to see Elvis on stage sense i didn't had the chance to see him live at the time,
but it would be nice to see him do deffirent thing.
if he had lived longer live then this would of been great for Elvis.

i think he would be doin' mostly country and gospel. elvis said in a 1972 that it was hard to find good hard rock song's. there really isn't much good out there now for rock songs
I think it would be gospel and ... classical music. Maybe opera. Elvis very much liked opera music. And his voice was so great in 1977. His voice sounded very deep and great and good for opera.
Beautifully said Tiger77 and I couldn't agree more with your story. It is funny, but In some ways Elvis and I have a lot incommon. I guess that's why I feel so close to him and can understand Elvis in many things. I only know that this one of the reasons why I love him. However, I once heard a story that Elvis was tring to create a new sound in the late 70's. (Hmm. I wonder what it would've sounded like?. One thing I know for sure it would've been great!) But it's a wellknown thing that Elvis loved gospels the most and that he really fellt he had given his tallent by God and that he wanted to do something with that talent.
