This is my pet cockatiel, Arkie. He's almost three months old.
My beloved cockatiel GT died last December at 11 years of age, and the house was just empty without a bird. So it's nice to have cockatiel sounds around the place again.
Arkie's just learning to talk and whistle. He already whistles along with the flute solo in An American Trilogy!
He's a genuine sweetie, and I look forward to many years together with him ...![]()
He's one of the very few things that can make this cynical journalist forget about all the troubles going on in the world. I come home at the end of nightshift as a news site editor, and he's there to greet me, chirping away.
(Oh, and if ever any of you tells my family and friends than I can be nice ... I'll have to kill you.)

I love Kenneth Austin Thomas![]()
Everyone says you only fall in love once but thats not true, every time I hear your voice I fall in love all over again.
To the world your just one person but to one person you could mean the world.
If I could be anything I would be your tear, so I could be born in your eye, live down your cheek and die on your lips
My little cockatiel (as featured above) had to be hospitalised tonight. He has to have an operation tomorrow morning to repair a tear in his, er, "back area" so to speak.
I'm in the wrong business: the whole thing will cost me $675!
Obviously, there's no choice, and I will pay it to keep him alive and healthy. He's only four months old.
But, man ... these vets sure do rake it in!
I know that vets do know how to charge but hopefully your cockatiel will be alright and you'll have him home soon.
Thank you for your concern.
Arkie is back in the house after a very stressful operation and two nights in hospital.
The poor little bugger has TEN stitches down below (ouch!). His feathers are now stained a light pink because of the blood. A nice look, really. It will grow out in a month or so.
He has to have complete cage rest for ten whole days; I can only touch him to give him some medicine twice daily, so it will be harder for me having no physical contact than him I think.
He's chirping away and seems glad to be home.I've only had him a couple of months, but am already very attached to him. This all coming just three months after I lost my other bird in December after 11 years has been a bit stressful for yours truly as well.
But life goes on. Cheers.
i'm glad to hear he's ok
it must be hard not to touch him for 10 days! i don't think i could handle that lol
This is my dog Charro!
And my cat Yankie!
And the last pet....i made him myself last night when i was cooking![]()
[Royalties come and go....... But there is only one man we always call THE KING
Yeah, it's only been a few hours and it's weird having to ignore his chirps and whistles to be let out of the cage. But it's for his own good.
The vet said I can move the cage over to where I watch TV in the loungeroom, and just reach in every so often and scratch his neck and back. He must be confused ... but I must wait the ten days. It'll be worth it.
I played An AmericanTrilogy today, and he still tries to whistle along with the flute solo, so he's behaving as normal.![]()
