So sweet indeed! It warms the heart so much to give a sweet animal a blankie, a toy and good food, lots of love and care....it bounces right back to us doesn't it?

You are as bad as me.... I have 6 inside, 1 dog and 1 outside kitty. Yet I think I'm getting visits from the neighborhood kitties as well. It appear that "Allie", my outside calico, has several "gentlemen friends" that come calling.

Oh definately these little neighborhood animals (I live out in the country...but they are around everywhere) they eat all the food and then some, I make beds for them, my out buildings have blankets and shelter from the storms we get...I spay and neuter to lesson the population..
I cry over every baby bird these cats bring down..and yell at them!
I know it's nature, but it hurts so much, when I feed them well, and they have to harm a little bird.
We have more critters than I'd like to be out there..in 30 ft pine trees, racoons and a wolf now and then, deer and skunks. Skunks are adorable.....they really are..but how do you sneak up on the mother, to retrieve the babies and have the scent glands removed, so you can keep them>>>> I love almost all beautiful (or not) animals... even the missing an eye or limb...always wanted a newfoundland, but the cats wouldn't be happy at all...would they? LOL My bed is getting smaller every day... : )

Yes, I think we are on par with each other. We had a squirrel that we tamed and named him "Roger." My daughter(who was 14 at the time) was sneaking pecans out of the pantry and feeding him through her window without me knowing!
We live on 2 acres, so there is one place where I always take our scraps and leave for all the critters, wild and/or tame. I see a buzzard making an appearance quite often, so I call him "Buzzy".
My family tried raising a baby skunk when I was a little girl, his mom had been killed so we tried to help. We would feed him through a "doll" bottle, but he was just too little. I named him "Moe", when he died we buried him in a shoebox, and I cried and I cried.
We have seen all sorts of wildlife come through as well...deer, coyotes, possums, raccoons and even a BIG bobcat!

Dearest Genie,

There is a staple on the above menu bar. If you press on that, you will then have another screen come up. Click on "browse" select from your downloaded photos off your computer.

You will then be taken back to the "Manage Attachments" screen. Press "Upload".

Then go to "Reply to Thread" (this screen) type whatever you would like, adding your photo/s by clicking the above staple again. It will come up as .

Press "Submit Reply" as per normal, to submit your post.

If the photos are from the Internet, you can just copy and paste, or press the 'Insert Image" button up the top, those steps I can explain, if needed.

Lord know what would happen if you and I lived next door to each other Rosanne...the area would be so full of domestic and wild animals they would have to re-route the road elsewhere for other neighbours to get to their homes.

Gail, the picture of your new doggie that Rosanne posted is just adorable...lucky dog for sure!

Jess, your horse is really beautiful...is that your son doing the jumps? Cute kid.

Thank you Diane, yes, that's my boy. He is a very capable rider, although he lost his nerve in some falls (on a larger horse). I'm trying to get him going again. It was very exciting watching him compete in the One Day Equestrian Events, as he and Jordie loved it. Their excitement made my heart thump, lol. We need to start again with him, now, it will be fine.

Jordie, he would give the most nervous rider confidence, he is so very kind.

Preparing the horses (making them pretty) takes longer than anything else, lol, groan! lol

Jess...what kind of horse is that? And what do you call that color? He is absolutely gorgeous, and so well "muscled" looking. Is the beach pic near your house?

Hi Rosanne,

Jordie is a Welsh Cob, Type C (I have a D here, a mare, who is bigger, can take a heavy man, she is also broken to harness, one day I'd love to do something about that, lol).

The Cobs were used by the Welsh, King Henry viii disliked this breed, as they are so hardy, he tried to have them culled.

For normal days, a Welshman would take his quiet and hardy stallion in harness to church, or use him for farming. They aren't that well known in Australia, as the fashion is for the light boned horses. I like Stock Horses and Quarter Horses, (I have one) and my Welsh Cobs. (Yes Tennesee Walking Horses, too, stunning.....ohhh I'd love to feel their gate......ohhhhh). I have Palominos and a black horse, lol.

Jordie is actually brown, technically, but he is to our eye, black with four white socks.

He was a stallion (hence the natural muscle, although DC would gallop everywhere on him, too). This is what is so beautiful about this breed. Jordie was home gelded as he fence walked (poor baby) by Sabina, I saw him, fell in love with him, bought him for me. DC fell in love and "stole" him from me, lol (like your children do).

DC just rode him, and their friendship is wonderful. Jordie, though, if someone doesn't have a nice personality, he will step on them, or put his ears back. His manners are impeccable, for us. I can just about go to sleep underneath his feet, and he will look after me. He looked after DC from when they were both nine, and I trust him.

This is Sabina, with Jordie's daughter.

Jess your horses are beautiful! I love your pictures of your son riding. I have always loved horses. My grandparents were farmers and they had many animals. The horses were always my favorite. My grandfather had several smaller ponies that he kept just for us grandchildren. I would spend many weekends horseback riding in the country. It gives such a feeling of freedom!
It is amazing how many of us Elvis fans are huge animal lovers.

Tell me what it means when you say he was "home gelded as he fence walked"? I'm going to google this breed and read more on them. I figured out why he is so pretty to me...I think I'm always attracted to the horses that have the big bones and muscles. When I was 9 I took a big interest in horses and my parents bought me a mare and an Apaloosa colt. The Ap had a wild streak(I think that breed does, doesn't it?) and my parents were already scared of horses so we ended up selling them. It was hard to give them the time and attention they needed living in the middle of Dallas, Texas. The place where we boarded them was great, it was just a ways off and I couldn't go that often. Yet I have always maintained an interest in horses to this day.

I'm so sorry you had to sell your horses, Rosanne, the same thing happened to my pony, when I was seven, although Gypsy was sold without anyone telling me. So, I understand how it feels.

Perhaps your appy had some arab in him, and that would make him toey?

Colts normally only have one thing on their minds. My Ed, I bought him as a colt, and he thought I was his mare, and would try to nip me, to go behind him (he was only a baby, really, but growing up fast!). Because of my circumstances at the time, I had to have him gelded by the Vet. A lot of stallions are beaten into submission. I can only surmise that Jordie was (before Sabina owned him), as he is terrified of the whip. I would never do that, and I've seen it at shows, whereas the owners want the stallion on his toes to go into the ring. I was ready to have a piece of that horrible man...grrrrrr

Sabina is a city/country girl, and she gelds her horses herself (home gelded)...(sad about that, I admit). She is also one of the nicest, and funniest people.

Jordie walked up and down the fence, pacing, as he was bored.

Taffy, (Penybank Domain) my dream horse, look at this boy on his toes:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77ZuA8-f7as"]YouTube - Penybank Domain Welsh Cob Stallion[/ame]

"Black Beauty" was also a Welsh Cob. She/he from the book and subsequent movie/s gave me a taste from when I was little.

There are some lovely Welsh Cobs in The States, too.
