Must see new HP Lightscribe technology!

Just got a new system and I had to show you guys this. It's made by HP and it's called Lightscribe cd label burning, when you burn a cd you turn it over and put a label(any kind you want) into a template and a laser actually burns the label onto the cd, it's awesome. this is the first one I made and I used Patrick's label from the new jam show. It doesn't print in color, but it doesn't use any type of ink either, it burns the images directly to the disc. right now the discs cost about 75 cents apiece, let me know if you guys have any questions on it, I've attached a sample. Just did your Mean Woman Blues single, here's a pic, they look better than professional, believe me, it burns directly to the disc, no labels, it's really cool,
speaking of your singles, is it possible to tell me where you got the versions for all of the singles you've done, just to save me the time of searching for the takes in my collection, Al

it's kind of a metallic color, no black or regular white, it is almost a gold color, it looks very nice when you actually see it in person, by the way your cd label designs are perfect for it! Hope you're going to keep going on the singles, they are my favorite covers, especially the 50's ones, I am very partial to the older designs and colors, Al

I read about this about a month ago and thought it sounded really cool. This is the first product I have seen from it; shouldn't be much longer and they will figure out a way to do color.... LOL Thanks for posting.

But they do look cool .... i use adhesive covers which are quite good ... and u get color of course
Would it work with standard CDR discs ?

It's an invention from Philips and the pictures are burned to the other side with a laser. So you don't need a printer anymore. If I read it correctly, making a label like the ones Alo posted (thanks!) take about 15 minutes a piece.

Do you have to buy special CD's for it and what burningprogram supports this technique already?

You're right, there's no ink involved, it's built directly into a cd/dvd burner, the program is available right now in the new pcs and supposedly will be available to purchase as a burning system separately very soon, I was in the market for a new pc anyway, so I got it included in my new system, actually the cds with photos with a lot of writing or pictures take about 30 minutes to burn, you just record your cd, flip it over and get into the labeling program, it is super easy to work, I really like it, it looks cool when you see it in person, like I said before, no color, I suppose that would require some sort of ink. You do have to buy the lightscribe cds to burn on. Right now, they're about $7 for a pack of 10. but remember, no labels and no ink to use, so actually, not that expensive, let me know if anyone else has any questions, AL

$7 for 10 seems expensive (compared to the prices of regular A-brand CDR's), but like you say: you don't need to buy HQ labels and you doesn't use ink.

It looks real sharp. I've read somewhere that in the near future other colours will also be on the market.

I'm figuring soon there will be a way to use colors, the only question is how and will they allow users that have it now to update the laser somehow, I'm hoping so, Al
