I remember that when I first became a fan (in 1995 when I was just 10/11) I couldn't stand listening to Old Shep 'cause it was too close to my heart, we had just had to put our rabbits to sleep. Sounds silly now, but was really painful at the time.

A while ago I could really relate to Girl Of My Best Friend. not anymore though luckily!!
There's so much world to see
For me, there's so much world to see
    Yeah! Yeah! Mmm!
    - waiting to see Australia.

There are many songs I can relate to, and it seems to be more, as older one gets as you learn a lot about life. Yes, maybe sometime the hard way. You find out about yourself and the importence of relationships. But I don't want to dig to deep... it already seems to enable people to take a little look into your soul...

My favorites in this matter are:

    1. For ol' time sake
    2. Bitter they are...
    3. You gave me a mountain
    4. You don't have to say you love me
    5. Just pretend

Depends on what is going on in my life, but last year I really had a thing for You gave me a mountain and You'll never walk alone. Not for the exact words but more for the feeling the songs give. When I'm in a cheer full mood I like the Rock and Roll songs and always get a better mood from songs like I washed my hand in Muddy water, Polk Salad annie (TTWIIse) well and all the bluesie stuff.

Right now I can very much relate to "Just Tell Her Jim (Dave) Said Hello" and "Never Again" for some sad reasons.

Apart from that I sometimes find myself in the lyrics of "Love Me Tonight", "In My Way", "Ask me" or "Tender Feeling" and sometimes I'm just the guy in "You'll Think Of Me" or "Inherit The Wind".

This is probably a cheesy answer, but so be it. I like cheese.

I feel like I can relate to most Elvis songs even if the subject matter is something I have never dealt with or experienced firsthand. But I think that is part of the Elvis appeal; his emotive singing--and it's almost something beyond what he does with his voice or his actual delivery and more just some innate, intangible quality--makes everyone believe what he is singing, and actually feel it.

I think that's why people say they feel like Elvis is singing to him. I really believe that in those cases it's more than just a matter of people making themselves think that about their favorite singer. It's part of why many of us feel like we know him when we really don't.

To me it seems like as Elvis matured, the more evident this quality in his voice became. That's one of many reasons why I like the seventies Elvis so much.
...you won't forget me when I go.
