I am sorry I have to bump this up again!!!!!

I keep on listening to this upcoming album, and it so fr*gg*n RAWKS!!!!! On the first album I had a few favourite songs, and some I could to without, but this new one is absolute amazing from beginning to end!!! ... my absolute favourite is High Enough!!!

If TWIMC got three stars from Rolling Stone, this one should get at least four!!!!

Here are some recent pics, LMP I think its on the Stern show, and leaving the Stern show (the one with the hat is an oldie).

I'm enjoying this album and like it better than her debut. Unfortunately the reviewers don't seem to feel the same. Rolling Stone started it off with a mediocre review, 2 1/2 stars, and I've seen 5 or 6 reviews since then that are also mediocre or worse.

Guess my world isn't hipster enough - I'll keep playing it.

Decent headline and review from MSNBC. I agree the first half of the album is better.

I ran out today on my lunch hour to buy Lisa's new cd. I loved the first one. I was hoping for something good in the 2nd and I definitely got it! I was able to listen to it in the car and made it through most of the songs once. I am so happy with it. It exceeds all of my expectations. I love this type of music. And I don't care what "the critics" say, this girl's got talent. She certainly has the ability to move me with her music, voice and lyrics! I feel so proud of her, like a proud parent! lol Everybody go BUY it!!! I hope her sales are good. I know that's not the utmost of importance to her, but I do want it to do well enough that she feels good about it and is encouraged and knows there those of us out here that appreciate her music and want her to continue with it.

I've been enjoying her CD also, as I did her first one.

I haven't seen any live performances from her in quite some time, but I want to comment on the ones I did see. Obviously in the beginning, the nerves and undeveloped stage presence were an issue. Also, I remember observing on several occasions in the beginning that her voice was way too low in the mix. (Was this at her request due to a lack of confidence?) Those factors, as well as another I'm about to address made her come across as not so impressive vocally.

On her first CD, she really sounded awesome. Why did she sound so different live?

I was reminded of this when listening to her new CD, because on certain songs it seems to me like she isn't singing with enough power. She sounds great and sexy and unique and full of personality, but in my opinion her voice shines the brightest when she is singing full-voiced. The title track is really beautiful, and to me hearing that after some of the more "whispery" songs, it really stands out as the best showcasing of her true abilities.

In a live rock and roll performace, it's hard to sing in that lower-keyed fashion and have it carry properly or make much of an impact (especially when she's turned down too low!), so she has to sing more forcefully. The result in such high contrast to what her studio performances sound like, and it gives the impression that she really can't sing as well as she does on CD because she seems unable to reproduce that sound.

I hope I'm not coming across as too critical, because I genuinely enjoy her music. And I did see some later performances in which she came across a lot better, both vocally and in her overall presentation. Was that I Love Rock and Roll she did with Pat Benatar? It rocked! But I haven't seen much since then, so I bet she's come a long way since then.

She sang live on her recent Oprah and Ellen appearances..... if you check those out you can judge for yourself how she is doing now.

I enjoy Lisa's singing, however she doesn't have a great voice. Her strength IMO, and she agrees in some interviews, is more stylistic - being expressive to underline her interesting lyrics. She has now had some vocal training and I think that was a good idea. She would start some words off pitch and then correct herself - she obviously doesn't have perfect pitch and didn't always 'land' on the note initially. That can take practice and training and she didn't have either. And of course using mics and earpieces live is a whole other experience with your delayed vocals bouncing back at you.

Recording in the studio is completely different. She can sing the same line 30 times until she gets it right (which she has referenced in at least one interview). Or her pitch can be corrected with software as needed.

She mentioned that recording her vocals took much less time with the 2nd album - that could also reflect her recent training and her touring experience.

All that said, you made a good point about the drawback of Lisa staying in her lower register. Based on her recording of "Don't Cry Daddy" and of her demo being "Baby I Love You" she can sing higher than she is.... I'm not sure why she doesn't - that could be a good topic to raise in one of her chats or Ask Lisa sessions.

Is that something she readily admits in interviews? Or are you just saying that because you know that can be done? Regardless, it's not altogether surprising.

Interesting you brought up Don't Cry Daddy as I actually meant to reference her higher singing in that song in my post. And I don't think that can simply be chalked up to a few years' difference or maturation/deepening of her voice, because she started her part of the song out in a deeper voice; she had that sound then too.

...Unless that higher singing was brought out with the help of software.

Well, without thinking about what all went into them, her CDs do make for good listening.

I saw Lisa twice this week, in Norfolk and Alexandria. She has improved her stage presence since her first tour. Her band, which includes her boyfriend and her children's father rocks. Her singing sounded good, especially when she sat down for two acoustic numbers. In Norfolk she asked the house lights to be turned up, the way her Dad used to. In Alexandria she signed autographs. She is much more beautiful than any picture I've ever seen of her. She is making her daddy proud.
