    Song Elvis wrote in '73?

Did you all see this in the news section?

Rights To Presley's Last Remaining Song On eBay?
Here is a press release from Yahoo news for an eBay auction of "Elvis Presley's Last Remaining Song".

Graceland 'All Shook Up' Over Elvis Presley's Last Remaining Song Now Available on eBay.

Songwriter Paul Terry King co-author of such hits as "Love in the First Degree," sung by Alabama, and "Idabel," sung by Elvis [] , is auctioning his interest in the only known available Elvis song titled "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses."

Presley and King co-wrote the song in 1973 and performed it privately. It was the last song written by Elvis and King prior to Elvis's death that remains unreleased and unpublished.

On December 16, 2004, show-biz wheeler dealer Robert FX Sillerman, who built live entertainment powerhouse SFX, agreed to pay $100 million to Lisa Marie Presley for an 85% controlling stake in Elvis Presley Enterprises.

The deal gives Sillerman the rights to use Presley's name and likeness, as well as the royalties from the King's music, films and TV specials. He plans to aggressively market the Elvis brand worldwide through his new company CKX (NY Daily News 12/16/2004).

With Sillerman's acquisition of the Presley's estate, Sillerman let this song slip through the cracks; and as of now, retains a minority interest in the song, "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses."

Paul Terry King now holds the majority interest 50%, in the last known unpublished song of Elvis Presley's estate. (See BMI.com, record # 6562846)

Devoted fans, music enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and or entertainers can now bid and get copyright and performance rights to one of the most prized possessions of the King himself, his music. This opportunity will never be available to the public again.

eBay will monitor bids and the auction is offered through eBay's trading partner Mike Waters of Sidon Investments LLC. Bidding opened Thursday at $10,000 at 8:30PM MST. For additional information go to eBay item #4074240562.

    Interesting...from the eBay listing:

The Song is Legally Titled "If I'd Only Bought Her Roses" with BMI "Work #6562846" Written and sung by Elvis Presley but never released. This might possibly be the last song unreleased by Elvis Presley.

BMI is an American performing rights organization that represents more than 300,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers in all genres of music. This song is registered with them, as well as the library of congress, and the United States Copyrights, and Trademarks offices. This can be simply verified by going to www.BMI.com selecting Search type in the work # and hit submit. You will see the songs legally registered title and the names of the writers/composers As Elvis Presley & Paul Terry King.

"SONGS THE WORLD NEVER HEARD"...hmmm, I'm not sure what to make of this.

As well this song is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office:

    PAu-1-810-413 (COHM) ITEM 1 OF 1 IN SET 1
TITL: If I'd only bought her roses.
PHYS: Sound cassette + lyrics sheet.
    CLNA: Paul Terry King
    DCRE: 1973 DREG: 17Nov93
    APAU: words & music: acPaul Terry King , 1950-, & Elvis A. Presley ,
    1933-1977.
    ECIF: 3/M

When you go to the appropriate page, you get this:

    1. Registration Number: PAu-1-810-413 Title: If I'd only bought her roses. Description: Sound cassette + lyrics sheet. Claimant: Paul Terry King Created: 1973
    Registered: 17Nov93
    Author on ? Application: words & music: acPaul Terry King , 1950-, & Elvis A. Presley , 1933-1977. Special Codes: 3/M

Lots of other questions, inconsistencies, and other weird things about this. Without going into them all, what happened to the cassette which apparently existed just twelve years ago?

Obviously the copyright claim was filed just by this guy, but I wonder if also in the case of BMI, if a co-author is deceased, his name can still be added unilaterally. It doesn't seem like it should work that way, but I have a feeling it may.

So these official registries might not mean diddley.

But perhaps without actually doing anything Elvis and the guy came to some agreement about this song back then, or Elvis just showed interest in it, or who knows...but this is the first I've heard of this guy. It just seems like he would have been mentioned in some book at some point, either an ccount by one of the guys or in some sessions book.

By the way, playing over the guy's website is what I presume to be a short clip of the music. It's not much. http://terryking.cjb.net/

    Can anyone tell us more?
...you won't forget me when I go.

    Spectacular claims require spectacular evidence.

Don't hold your breath, fellow fans.

There are, btw, ........... lots of other bogus EP authored lyrics / music pieces out there.

    Interesting information buddy!!!

I also saw the news article on this, and like Cappy, I am quite skeptical about the whole story! Wonder if this guy is related to a certain cup owner whom shall remain nameless!?!

If the Ebay Seller would be selling a real Tape of this Track sung by Elvis Presley, well this would be an other story.
But to sell only the song rights, well I know what NOT to buy
This is not just to high. This is far too high

    I AGREE 100% ANDY!!!

Especially since the odds are pretty high that this whole thing is a scam!! I just hope some unsuspecting fan doesn't sink all their savings into a scam like this....that would be a true shame!!!
