    Elvis Great Country Songs Album.

Right now i am playing a cd i have called Elvis Great Country Songs.
this version i have the dsd version.

it's been a waile since i played this cd, to let you know i am not much on
compilation albums but i really do like this album and it was nice when they put out-takes on this album.

but when they started this dsd they should of did his Delete tittles instead
    of tittles like this,
but i got this one to hear what this sound's like, i dont had the old version when it frist came out, but i think to me that is sound much better the original
    version of this album.

what do you think about this dsd version of "Elvis Great Country Songs"

Didn't get the DSD version, Curtis. I'm waiting for it to be re-done in the next few months or so.

(Having said that, I actually did get the first 3 album upgrades a couple days ago. I did so for two reasons, the first being the praise I've heard for them thus far in terms of the improved sound, and the second being that if they are going to go through the catalogue like this, then I want to get in on it from the beginning. I hope they do, which would mean a gradual correction of the questionable revamping of the Elvis catalogue from a couple years ago.

I wonder though how this will correspond with FTD's Deleted Albums series...which brings up another point: If some of these first 3 albums are deemed to be mass-market-worthy, then why is Elvis Is Back not? I guess the point could be made that if the EIB CD were not coming out on FTD, we would not be getting a 2CD special 7" digipack, but to that I say, "So what?"

Those outtakes and what not could just be on a regular FTD, for one thing--and without checking I am assuming at least a few of them already have. Also, it's great that they are bringing deleted albums back via FTD, but for them to be doing so concurrently on the main label with some of the other titles is a little strange.

As a fan, I am loving the fact that the Today album will be given the special FTD treatment. But as someone who wants everyone to have that album available to them in stores, it's not such a great thing. Surely there won't be a release on both labels?

If this is going to happen the way I'm thinking, then the direction back toward a respectable catalogue like Elvis' songbook warrants will be a little zig-zagged. I suppose the problem is that the Deleted Albums FTD campaign was commenced well before this latest thing, which may have been influenced by the 'Sony' part of Sony/BMG, I'm guessing. I don't really know the solution--if you want to really tick off some fans, stop all plans for such FTDs, but it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

    ...parenthetically speaking. )

    Anyhow, Curtis...

I think it's a great CD. I don't mind compilations if they are assembled with a little logic (and then some, hopefully) and if they don't get repetitive--which they have, in the case of Elvis...and specifically in the case of his country repertoire.

But just examining the CD itself, I think it makes a great listen. Well, I guess if I had my druthers all the tracks would be from the seventies, but that's just me. But all the alternate takes are really great, as you mentioned. Also, the remake of Guitar Man on there was my first exposure to that material.

Oh yeah, I did actually buy another copy of this on eBay about a year ago , not the DSD one though. It was a new Japanese CD. The Buy It Now price was I think $1.99 and then it cost $8 to ship! But just in terms of a neat product, I thought it was cool to have--the standard jewel case enclosed in a 2-piece cardboard packaging, and liner notes and the cover text in both English and Japanese. I still see deals like that from Japan and China on eBay pretty often.
...you won't forget me when I go.
