Okay, here's a question for all Elvis music lovers:
Who is your favorite songwriter (or songwriting team) that wrote for Elvis and why?
There's no doubt as to my favorite - Don Robertson. The songs he wrote for Elvis in the 60's are some of my all-time favorites.
Especially:
"There's Always Me"
"Starting Today"
"They Remind Me Too Much of You"
They were quality songs and brought a new dimension to Elvis' singing.
For the 70's I would give an honorable mention to Mark James and Jerry Chestnut.
The only criteria is they must have written more than one song Elvis recorded.

yeah don robertson wrote some great songs indeed,very tender and soft songs that really suited elvis voice in the early sixties
pomus and shuman to great songs
and i really think that red wrote some great songs for elvis to
but for pure rock & roll lieber & stoller is in a league all by themself

I agree with all the writers mentioned. Rice and Webber might have written more songs for Elvis had he lived. I love "It's Easy For You".
Almost forgot about Red. What an underrated writer! His personal relationship with Elvis made it possible for him to write some songs that seemed to reflect Elvis' state of mind at the time, i.e. "Seperate Ways" or "If You Talk In Your Sleep".
Donnie Sumner also wrote one of my favorites with "I Miss You".

The passing of Dennis Linde has got me to being about this subject again.
As I stated in the other thread, the contributions of great songwriters to Elvis' career was crucial.
Elvis recorded some Dylan songs as well, including the informal "I Shall Be Released" so I supposed he could be included too. Certainly, "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" is a definitive recording.

Mark James (Suspicious minds the biggest comeback for Elvis)

Joy Byers and Ben Weisman, plus all the others listed.
Don Robertson is my favourite.
I like Love Me Tonight and other ballads by Don.
Leiber and Stoller is my other favourite writers.

Don Robertson was a great one, Otis Blackwell, another. I liked Mark James's offerings as well. Mac Davis and Jerry Reed are two others that I don't think anyone has mentioned, but their songs are unique in Elvis's career as well.
