Thanks for this interesting nugget Max.
On June 21,1977, Elvis was on the road for what turned out to be his final tour. On this particular date Elvis had a show in Rapid City, South Dakota. Backstage, the Mayor presented Elvis with a special award for being the first artist to perform at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. While I am sure Elvis appreciated the award from the Mayor, he was really touched to his heart by the presentation to him by a little girl named Monique Brave. She gave Elvis a Medallion of Life on behalf of the Sioux Indian Nation.

Very interesting. It represents a truly wonderful and heartfelt moment. Thank you for this post.
It's a very bittersweet moment. Giving him a Medallion Of Life - Yet, Within Six Weeks He Was Gone....![]()
I have seen this before but didn't mind seeing it again as it was a sweet moment in his life. Thank you for posting.
Very Interesting post - Ty Max - Elvis was honord and presented with The Medal Of Life from Monique and the Mayor At Rapid City - On June 21st '77 before show
I loved that footage of the little Mexican girl. Very touching. But in all honesty, if I had been the one to start this thread it would have turned into a "what does her being Mexican have to do with anything" or "that's what someone from the past would think or say" type of bashing from a certain few. Now I see my place here. Sorry for derailing it. Back to as you were.![]()

Well this thread was started I'm sure with no intention of adding any editorial comment of any kind-it just simply showed a kind good side of Elvis...it would not matter who started it-its a nice reminder of who and what Elvis was to people of all kinds.

Heres another TCB world thread that has a short interview with Monique Brave as an adult recalling her meeting with Elvis.

Nice interview, thanks Ken.![]()
Great interview that is worth sharing with everyone. It would be nice to see this image of Elvis displayed to the world by the media. Does anyone know if the scarf was since purchased or perhaps auctioned for charity?
